Raises the question...

According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers have emerged as the favorites to sign Randy Wolf.

Wolf is apparently willing to take a lesser deal to head home to Southern California. The move would give the Dodgers a rotation of Derek Lowe, Brad Penny, Wolf, Chad Billingsley and either Mark Hendrickson, Hong-Chih Kuo or Brett Tomko. However, the Dodgers still might either re-sign Greg Maddux or bring in Jason Schmidt. They could then possibly trade Penny for the outfielder they desire.

Do we have any interest in trying to aquire Penny?

Why are the Dodgers looking for an OF? They already wasted a ton of money on Pierre when they had three more capable guys ahead of him who were younger, better, and much much much cheaper.

Can we get Penny and Kemp??? :D

That stinks, I really wanted Wolf. He will be a good bargain compared to guys like Meche and Lilly who are worse and will get paid more. I don't know who the Dodgers would want for Penny, maybe bullpen help? He would be the #2 type we are looking for though.

If Wolf is signing this early then that's an indication to me he's getting a great deal for himself. Combined, him signing before some of the others plus the fact that it's the Dodgers signing him, makes me believe he'll be getting much more than we might expect.

Rosenthal said he was taking a discount. See above.

Penny for Iszturis

Ha... That would be freakin sweet, we just need to convince them Izturis can play OF. :-k

Let's throw in Jones too! Want Dempster also? He's all yours.

If the Dodgers fill their rotation with Wolf and leave Schmidt on the market...I guess I'm okay with that. Wolf was one option I had hoped the Cubs would check into, though.

Rotoworld said they were still interested in signing Schmidt ... Penny wouldn't be on the market unless they signed another starter in addition to Wolf.

It seems the interest in Wolf stems from the fact that Maddux not only wants two years but a raise as well.

I read where Maddux wants a Mussina-like deal.

Well that is just plum crazy talk from Greg.

Crazy talk from Boras, most likely.

Does anyone know Boras' net worth? He easily makes more money per year than any player in the game.

Boras gross profit might be high but his net profit is nowhere near his gross. He has to hire dozens of people to assist him with these clients. I am reasonably sure Boras is stinking rich but I don't think he makes that much off of individual contracts. After paying the bills I imagine it is about 1 or 2% of the contract.

Do you really think that's all he nets? I can't imagine his gross is less than 5% of the cash he brings in even after paying all the help. Even if it is 2%, that's still almost $2.5 mil on Beltran's deal in his pocket.

I'm just guessing, but the I don't think his net is that high and after one factors in taxes it is probably signifanctly less.

The value in a big contract for the agent is the fact that the contract attracts other players to the agent.

Per rotoworld, 1 yr 8 mil with a 9 mil option. Done deal to Dodgers. That's really cheap in this market. Why couldn't Hendry have gotten into this?

Maybe health is high on his list of requirements for pitchers going forward.

Haha yeah that is probably true.
