This confirms what Bruce was saying, earlier.

The Cubs have NOT made an offer to Schmidt, and whoever leaked it, prolly jumped the gun.

Ha ha, Bruce for the win.

CT should apologize to Bruce, lol.

i call for a str8 b&

Yes, but first he should apologize for all nearly 9000 of his posts.

And say it like he means it.

CT;

Be a man, and apologize to Miles.

What did CT say that requires his apology?

To be blount, he basically call Miles a liar, and basically ran Miles off of NSBB.com.

boy, that sure is an exaggeration of what really happened

I was thinking the same at first, but then I figured he was joking. Maybe not, though.

Bruce, have you ever considered writing a blog from the Winter Meetings?

If Bruce were interested, is there some way to set up a Winter Meetings thread in which only Bruce could post?

Most interesting thing you can take from this situation:

ESPN doesn't do a real good job of checking its facts before putting out their reports.

That's a great idea, especially the part about no one else being allowed to post in it. :)

it says today the offer is 3/44...sounds like they are really targeting schmidt to me.

What is it?

Not sure....

As you know Bruce says no deal was offered, the Trib says no deal was offered........Rotoworld say no deal offered.

I think no deal was offered.

1. It's not up to anyone here to demand apologies from anyone else. Drop it.

2. Keep the discussion here on Schmidt. If you have a little joke to tell or a cute picture to post, do it somewhere else.

3. If you can't be bothered to read back in the thread, then don't bother to post.

Thanks.

Try this theory on for size.

Hendry's looking to spend ~$18M on 2 starters.

His 'Plan A' is to get one guy via trade (Westbrook, Jennings) for a net of $3 or $4M, allowing him to commit another $14-$15M on Schmidt.

The fallback 'Plan B' is to spend $8-$10M apiece on two free agents from the Lilly/Padilla/Meche/Suppan/etc pool.

But he can't do the Schmidt deal, and blow 80%of his budget, until he nails down that trade.

So maybe he goes hard for the trade early in the Winter Meetings, and then puts on the full court press for Schmidt immediately after that?

almost too logical to be true. One way or the other I expect Hendry to enter the Winter Meetings in a Brinks truck

I'm assuming here that the Tribe would want some players back. ;)

I'll take Plan A, please.

Bob Nightengale was on Charley Steiner's XM radio show a couple of hours ago (noonish CT?). He said the pitching market was heating up and that he expected a slew of signings leading into and during the winter meetings. He expects Jason Schmidt to sign next week and said the Cubs were the favorites in his opinion. Seattle doesn't seem willing to match the dollar amounts being tossed around and, although the Dodgers seem interested, it's hard to gauge how interested they are.

Nightengale also said he thought Zito would sign later.

Please don't be basing this off of yesterday's reports...
