True, if it winds up being Eyre traded, we're fine. Wuertz is ready to step up to a larger role. Ohman is our LOOGY. Cotts would be a fine back of the bullpen guy.

Only a Cub fan could say that Aardsma has loads of potential, while in the same post saying that Cotts is nothing special.

The comedy is outstanding.

Have you guys checked out his splits last year?

Pre-All Star Break 2.95 ERA .216 BAA

(not bad at all)

He absolutely fell apart the second half of the season.

Cotts also had some of the strangest Home and Away splits that I have seen. Is there a reason why his Away numbers should be that much better??

I had to laugh at that also. I would rather get someone that has had success then someone with potential at this point.

the only way this will be a good move is if it lets the cubs get westbrook without trading wuretz. i guess signing wood for the pen also had a factor in the decision. again, i wish they could have gotten the sox to take novoa instead.

I have no problem with this move at all.

It HAS to be a precursor to Eyre for Westbrook :D

Hendry is totally and completely forgiven for the Blanco signing in my mind if we can get Westbrook without giving up anyone very good.

Maybe the Cubs will turn him into a starter? I know the Sox were entertaining the idea in 2004 and early 2005 but scraped that idea when they went on a roll that year... I think the Cubs also included Vasquez?

He's first in the Baseball Almanac, you can't buy that kind of potential, dude.

I do insist however that Cotts is nothing special. Not worth two prospects IMO. The Sox couldn't wait to dump him, that's a pretty damning signal.

Can somebody tell me anything about Cotts's stuff?

A starter his whole career, Cotts struggled last year to set up his changeup, his best pitch. His fastball doesn't get much above 90 and his deceptive motion was not a big issue for lefthanded batters, who hit him surprisingly hard. Cotts was up with too many pitches last season, allowing more homers than he had in his minor-league career. He needs to work on his move to first base as he was easy to run on a year ago.

US Cellular is depressing?

Still, he put up a season long 1.95 ERA in the AL. No injuries as far as I know. So surely he can come to the NL and settle back in for another good season. :D

The only thing that makes sense to me is that another team wants Cotts included in a deal. Cotts doesn't do anything for the Cubs. He's redundant, like Aardsma was.

Or you just miss the obvious potential Eyre deal. I don't think Hendry would add a third LH arm for no reason.

Though he does defy logic on a continuous basis...

And are we running a 7 man pen again this year!?

Cotts

Eyre (as of now, I'm almost certain he's gone)

Ohman

Wuertz

Howry

Wood

Dempster

Hopefully.

Eyre's probably gone, which is fine by me as Cotts can probably do close to as good a job for much cheaper. And if we get Westbrook, that gives the Cubs a solid No. 3.

It is a true indication of how some people tend to grossly overestimate the value of the Cubs' prospects.

I like that move Cotts is young and has shown promise just had a bad year last year.

I just looked up his stats and his only good year was in 2005. His other seasons were terrible, so who knows.
