Looking at the Big 10 standings, Penn State locks up 4th place with a win over Michigan St. Normally that would get them into the Alamo Bowl vs. the #4 team in the Big XII, but if both Michigan and O$U make BCS games, I'm not sure what happens. Does Wisconsin move up to the "#2" Big 10 tie-in and Penn State to the #3?

I'm fairly certain that's what happens.

so an upgrade (for PSU) from Alamo Bowl vs. someone like Mizzou or KSU to the Outback Bowl vs. Georgia/Kentucky/Tennessee and an upgrade for Wisconsin to the Capital One Bowl. All assuming that UM/O$U loser gets an at-large bid to a BCS game.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, if the Badgers finish 6th in the BCS, they will be the highest seeded team not to make a BCS bowl. I could be wrong, though.

Oregon was #5 last year and didn't go.

Cal was #5 in 2004 as well.

What is this? Can't a guy try to post wild speculation as fact on an internet message board anymore? Sheesh.

O$U and Michigan are going to BCS bowls no matter what. Wisconsin is going to the Capitol One Bowl. If Penn State beats Moo and Purdont beats Indiana, both teams will have three conference losses, and the Outback Bowl will have the option of taking PSU or Purdont. They'll take PSU, because they have a bigger fan base - and it'll be justified since PSU beat the Boilermakers on the road. This means Purdont would go to the Alamo Bowl.

BTW, here are the CFN bowl projections this week. They have Penn State facing Auburn.

ACC No. 7 vs. Pac 10 No. 5

Bowl Projection: Florida State vs. UCLA

That'd be fun!

Seven Pac-10 teams in bowl games, but I can't see UCLA being the Pac-10's 5th...probably 6th or 7th.

obviously they're projecting UCLA to beat ASU and then lose to USC, since they're projecting USC to play in the national championship game. Oregon, if they win this week over Arizona, will guarantee themselves a better record than UCLA (assuming UCLA splits the next two). Oregon State should also do the same with a victory over Tree this weekend. Washington State would have to lose at home to Washington for UCLA to take 5th in the Pac 10, and given how Willingham's team has collapsed, I don't see that happening.

Btw, I think this would be a good matchup for UCLA or for any Pac 10 team. F$U is really going in the tank, and there's no way that those players are going to be excited for a bowl game just after Christmas in some obscure bowl game in San Fran. Those players did not commit to Florida State with the expectation of playing in the Emerald Bowl.

I agree. For someone who thought a bowl game was impossible a week ago, it's nice to see. :)

they project a bowl for Miami. That saddens me

Well, they play at Virginia this weekend. Virginia is awful. Still, don't you think it's funnier to have Miami playing in the Blue Turf Bowl, or Florida State in the Emerald Bowl, then to have them at home for the bowls?

Ugh. CFN has Missouri in the Sun Bowl. If they somehow get to the Alamo Bowl, I'll go. Sun bowl though, eh. And if Missouri wins its last two games and KState gets picked ahead of them for a bowl game, I'm gonna go crazy.

I take great joy in seeing them play in December, yes, especially against the likes of Nevada and UCLA (sorry Raisin)

No need to be sorry, though I'll be really livid if we're at the same level next year with the amount of talent we'll have.

Some idiot thought Oklahoma lost last weekend and got booted from the AP poll because of it.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A voter for The Associated Press college football poll was removed from the poll board Wednesday because he mistakenly thought Oklahoma had lost to Texas Tech and voted the Sooners lower in this week's rankings.

Jim Kleinpeter of The Times-Picayune of New Orleans said he tried to find the score of the Oklahoma game, but was unable to do so.

He said he was in the press box at the Alabama-LSU game "and I was asking about different teams, thinking about the poll the next day. ... I thought somebody told me that Oklahoma was losing to Texas Tech at some point. And I asked after the LSU game was over, 'Did Oklahoma win?' Somebody said Oklahoma lost," Kleinpeter said.

The Sooners rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat Texas Tech 34-24.

Because he believed the Sooners (8-2, 5-1) had lost, Kleinpeter said he dropped Oklahoma from 15th to 24th on his ballot.

While driving home today I was listening to Mac, jurko and Harry hoping to hear some good Aardsma for Cotts stuff. Instead they were talking Michigan and Ohio St. Anyway Mac at one point said that Michigan creamed Notre Dame. So a few minutes later a Notre Dame fan called in to take offense to Mac saying it was a creaming. It really was some of the funniest radio I have heard in a long time. I dont mean this to be an attack on Notre Dame because I surely know some dumb fans of almost every team. What I thought was really funny was that this guy took time to call in and call Mac a moron for saying that Michigan creamed Notre Dame. I mean how much time he has had to waste over the last 2 months justifying his arguement that Michigan didnt cream Notre Dame and then to call a radio show and call someone else stupid for suggesting it.

At the end of the conversation I reminded myself why I dont listen to a whole lot of any Talk Radio. This was really funny stuff though.

Haha, that's really quite pathetic. And considering all the talk radio hosts over the last 10 months falsely calling the Fiesta Bowl of last year a "beatdown" even though the game was in doubt until the very end, you'd think this guy would at least call in to one of THOSE shows, rather than worry about a game that was pretty much over in the 2nd quarter.

What would you call last years OSU/ND game then if it wasn't a beat down? 617-348 total yards including a 275-62 rushing advantage. Troy Smith threw for over 300 yards and Pittman ran for over 100. Plus OSU turned the ball over twice and ND didn't at all. One of those turnovers was a Troy Smith fumble at the ND 9 yard line. The score of that game should have been much worse than it was. At the least it should be called a very convincing victory.

I would probably call it a convincing victory-but OSU had a 3rd and 12 late in the 4th quarter up by 7, and Troy Smith was wrapped up by a Notre Dame defender for a sure sack to put the Notre Dame offense on the field to try to tie the game (and the Notre Dame offense had scored a TD on their previous drive), and then Ohio State had another 3rd and long deep in their own territory where almost the same thing happened.

When your QB has to make two great 3rd and long plays with less than 5 minutes to go to make sure that there isn't an OT, it isn't a beatdown.

Michigan outgained Ball State 507-297 on Nov. 4th and won the game by 8, and were 2 yards away from a possible tie game. Is that a beatdown?

I could care less about any statistic other than the score when it comes to a football game. Could've would've should've means about as much in football as it does in any other sport - bupkus.
