Yankees get: Willis, Inge, and Prior

Makes my head hurt. Though it makes me long for the days of true blockbuster trades, like the one where Tor. sent McGriff and Fernandez to SD for Alomar and Carter. You don't see deals like that one anymore.

Switch Cabrera and ARod. I'd much rather have Cabrera.

I'd rather have Cabrera too, but I figured the Cubs would be better equipped to take ARod's salary, and more likely to be the agreed to destination by ARod, since he does have a no trade clause.

The Reds fans have tossed around Dunn for Bonderman over at Redszone, and I could see that one happening as well.

I don't think the Tigers would do it either. But if Bonderman were on the blocks, I'd like the Cubs to take a run at him. It's probably not feasable, but he would be worth the effort.

I wonder if the Rangers would trade Tex for Bonderman...hmm.

That's the deal I have in mind.

I'm terrible at these proposals. That said, Derrek Lee for Bonderman and Granderson. The Tigers plug about the only hole they have, while creating need for either a homegrown centerfielder (Clevlin or Maybin- who is too young, but I'm spitballing here) or a short term free agent centerfielder to hold a spot for Maybin.

The Cubs get a much needed starting pitcher and a good centerfielder, but now have another hole to fill at first. But, they have even more money to spend, so maybe they work out something at first via trade or free agency.

If Hendry fails to resign Aramis, D-Lee would be the keystone to any deal with Detroit that would net us much of anything in return. But let's not kid ourselves here, Hendry could always hold out for the "established veteran" who "saved us." Buf if Aramis walks, Detroit could be a suitor for him as well. If we were to send D-Lee to Detroit, I'd ask for Miller and Maybin, minimum. I'd probably get laughed out of the league, but that's where I'd start.

Murton,Izturis,Mateo, and Jones for Bonderman and Granderson

I doubt Detroit would accept that offer. They already have Carlos Guillen at ss, they already have Thames and Monroe for LF, and they have Ordonez for RF. I am sure any talks regarding both Bonderman and Granderson would have to include Zambrano.

Guillen's days at SS are numbered. His knee will prevent him from playing there too much longer.

True, which is why I could see them sending Bondy to Baltimore for Tejada. I cannot see them taking Murton, Izturis, and Jones for Bondy. Murton isn't established enough, I would think, and Izturis and Jones suck.

If you have a 23-year old that just blanked the Yankees in the ALCS, you don't trade him for a bunch of unproven, mediocre, or bad players. You trade him for a stud or you don't trade him at all.

I heard Holden Kushner on xm this weekend gushing about his newest trade idea: Sheffield and Andy Phillips for Bonderman. He was quite proud of himself. The next caller suggested maybe the Tigers should try to sign Bonds to which Kushner responded why would the Tigers want someone who is notoriously bad in the clubhouse, and in the cold weather of Detroit someone who is old and injury prone. Did I miss something :?

The only problem with that deal it is that Miller can't be traded until a year after he has signed a contract.

Still, given that Lee is under contract for a long time, paid a reasonable salary for his production, and is entering his prime, I'd try to make an offer along the lines of Bonderman, Granderson, and Maybin for Lee and Izturis if Guillen's knees are as bad as it has been speculated.

Tigers get

Jones, Izturis, Gallagher, Patterson

Cubs get

Bonderman

This gives Detroit:

1 the LH bat they've wanted/ needed this season who incidentally is familiar with the division and has a history of performing well against their biggest rival.

2 An "All-Star" caliber SS (LOL) so they can move Guillen to first permanently

3 Gallagher to replace Bonderman

4 Patterson a nice prospect

Hendry and Dombrowski supposedly have a good working relationship, so I could see a Detroit/Cubs trade. Your deal certainly gives them quantity, but not necessarily the quality bat they are probably thinking about. I'm guessing Bonderman for Tejada plus other pieces might be attractive to both teams. That deal will allow Detroit to move Guillen to 1B

While I think tejada for Bonderman makes the most sense and would be a great deal for both teams, isn't Detroit more hung-up on getting a LH bat?

According to this, the Tigers might shop Bonderman.

Jeremy Bonderman, RH

Arbitration eligible

At times, he looked like an ace. At other times, he looked like a fourth starter. By the end of the season, his ERA dropped for a fourth straight year — further evidence of his development. Then he became a bona fide postseason performer. He started series-clinching victories over the Yankees and A's, then handed a one-run lead to the bullpen in Game 4 of the World Series. This is a big off-season for him. The Tigers might sign him to a long-term contract or consider trading him for a big bat.

If the Cubs could pull a deal for Burrell, why not deal Jones and a prospect like Mateo or Marmol for Bonderman?

Vance,

I still think the logical places to deal Jones are to San Diego or Seattle. I think Detroit could be a destination, but it won't be for Bonderman unless the Cubs include someone from the Veal, Pawelek and Gallagher group (my opinion). The Padres have an opening in LF if they don't re-sign Roberts, and I'm sure Seattle would prefer to have Ibanez DH full time. Since San Diego and Seattle are probably not the likely destinations for Soriano, CLee and Bonds, those teams would probably look at Jacque favorably, although both teams seem to be enamored with Luis Gonzalez right now. Another destination could be San Francisco. Although, I think they will end up with either Bonds, Soriano or CLee. If they don't, and Jacque plays well for Bochy in the Japan series, Bochy could ask Sabean to make a trade.

I would be happy to trade Detroit Izturis for Fernando Rodney if they'd be interested. They could perma-slide Guillen to 1B and let Casey walk, and then pursue someone like Frank Thomas for DH.

If we had Rodney, we could afford to use Howry (one of our best bargaining chips) to help acquire a bat. Murton + Howry for Burrell and cash?

On net then, Burrell + Rodney > Murton + Howry, IMO. Plus, you've saved some cash and rid us of the unwanted Izturis.

I'm hearing the Giants have some interest in Luis Gonzalez. I also hear the Rangers discussing him as well.

While Gonzalez is slightly younger than Alou, Finley and Bonds, I figured that the Giants would look for someone around 30 or under when they said they planned on getting younger this offseason. Go figure.
