Dear Jim Hendry

When asked at the cubs convention if the Cards winning it all puts any extra pressure on you to win, what will your anwser be especially seeing the 2 most hated teams for cubs fans have now won it twice in a row.

thank you for your time

P.S. You better watch where you forget your briefcase, not too many people will be as nice as my friend and return it.

Obviously, our goal is to win a World Series. We don't try and look too much at what other teams win, because we're focused on our team, and our team goal. I'm confident with the additions we have made that we have a team that has a good chance to compete this season, and that's the goal of this team, is to compete and to win.

Is that from 2004 or 2005 or 2006?

I, among some others, would disagree. I think it matters where you grew up or where you live. I still think Cardinal fans are some of the most arrogant fans in all of sports.

I would rather have him be asked, "After watching the World Series, have you finally figured out how important a lead-off guy getting on base consistently is?"

Don't ask him that. If he believes you, then he'll think that only the leadoff man needs to get on base, and that he can continue to populate the rest of the lineup with losers like Izturis and Cedeno.

Good point.

I wonder, right now, in Vegas who is favored to win the 2007 World Series?

Nope it doesn't for most of us. I live in the heart of Chicago and I can tell you the Cards winning is worse.

I experienced both the Sox winning while in Chicago and the Cardinals winning while in St. Louis. This is much worse.

Ok what would JH say when we ask him. . "Why did you let guys like Matsuzaka, Schmidt, Soriano, and Carlos Lee pass you buy, but instead re-signed Neifi Perez for 3yr/30mil and Suppan to 5yr/50mil?"

The Sox winning made me say "hurumph", the Cards winning kills my soul. The "BFIBB" are only dedicated because they are clueless. The 2006 Cardinals: worst team to ever win a World Series. Yeah, I'm bitter.

Granderson was the Corey Patterson of leadoff hitters, but even Eckstein had a couple of fluky games to elevate his post-season numbers to mediocre overall. Eckstein was horrible in the NLDS, fair at best in the NLCS, and started out the WS 0 for 9 the first 2 games. Neither was the epitome of consistent - Juan Pierre could have done (and did in 2003) more than this. IMO, there was nothing to be learned from this postseason except the importance of just getting there.

This postseason offers a stamp of validation to Billy Beane's credo that the playoffs are a crapshoot. Build a team to get there and take your chances.

As bad as I want the Cubs to win the world series....I'd settle for a team like the As, who seemingly are always in the playoffs, though they haven't won. I'll settle for at least having a chance every year. Obviously, the Cubs are in a special situation, where 1 championship would mean more to them than any other team in the history of sports, but non-desperate part of me would be very pleased with 5 trips to the playoffs in 7 years.
