ah, it's been soooo long since we had a 'prior is a wuss' thread. feels good to have one again.

When are we allowed to want to move on from depending on him? After 3 dissapointing seasons? 4?

Torch every player with a bad season!! WUSSIES

Burn them, BURN THEM!

Here's my question re: Prior. If we say Prior will never throw another pitch, how does that affect the Cubs offseason plans? It isn't as if they've been holding off on getting an ace because they've been counting on Prior. If they got another pitcher, it would take away from some other area where they need help. The Cubs terrible season has a lot to do with Prior's injuries, but the idea that they sucked because they planned around him is ridiculous. If they hadn't planned around him, they still would have sucked, and whether they plan for a return or not will not affect their record next year either.

Was that called for?

Just about as called for as it is to call Prior a "wimp, or a headcase". To think that he seriously doesnt want to pitch, and likes to be hurt, is assanine.

BTW, the updated article reveals that O'Neal also got a 2-year extension.

"That's to be determined," said O'Neal, who also got a two-year contract extension Tuesday.

Did I call Prior a wimp?

I hope if this bum can remain healthy for more than 2 months and builds back up some of his trade value, Hendry sells ASAP.

wow. i thought we had stopped calling players "bums" when farnsworth was traded? or was that headcase?

I don't think anyone ever alleged that was a problem with Farnsworth...

What the freaking hell? How can that possibly be justified? What, did he not call in sick for the whole year? With all the injuries this team has had, that's ridiculous that they give the trainer a new contract.

who said anything about whether or not we could depend on him? i wouldn't really depend on him, but it's not because i think he's a wuss/pansy/less than a man.

Well I viewed this more of a let's move on thread than Prior is a wuss thread. :P

I'm amazed (and maybe I really shouldn't be) that the fact that Rothschild got an extension got little reaction yet Prior getting a freakin' second opinion does. Unless, of course, most of you don't hold Rothschild at all accountable for our poor pitching and injuries.

Start a Rothschild thread if you wish.

The Tribune updates it's stories throughout the day. The article about Prior getting a 2nd opinion also broke the news that Rothschild -- and O'Neal and the training staff -- all got 2-year extensions.

Maybe you shouldn't be amazed "that Rothschild got an extension got little reaction yet Prior getting a freakin' second opinion does" since the story was one and the same -- which you can complain about -- but you're complaining to the wrong audience. We're just picking this stuff up out of the constantly updated articles here. If you want to snipe about it, snipe at the people who are responsible.

Newsflash: That ain't us.

Also, a lot of people vented their frustration at Rothschild's retention when it was originally speculated during the Piniella hire.

I apologize for ranting. However, it's a little frustrating when what appears to be a small issue with the team (Prior or anyone just getting a second opinion) creates pages of opinions yet something that will have an effect , and, to many, a negative effect (Rothschild) seems to get overlooked. I guess it might be about perspective. I apologize, I'm still upset about the '06 season and I'm more upset about the Cardinals winning tonight.

The last thing I want to do is depend on a pitcher that has no stones! Instead of spending another off season playing video games, I'm hoping Prior actually takes it seriously enough to get his arse off from the couch and lift some weights.

Which pitchers have been injured for lengthy periods of time other than Wood and Prior? And weren't Woody and Prior inherited by Rothschild? He also had to rehab Dempster...and he also had to rehab Wade Miller...

I think piling on Larry Rothschild is a little too much. If I'm given a crappy car and take the hopeless thing to the mechanic to fix all the things wrong with it, I can't complain when he tries...and fails...to fix it.

I am racking my brain to come up with pitchers that were hurt BECAUSE of Rothschild...

If Lou likes him...I'm down with it. Jim Leyland wanted him...and he's no dummy, either. It's about time we blamed Jim Hendry and his foolishness more than we do the pitching coach, who, last time I checked, doesn't throw pitches...

I am probably the Lone Ranger here, so tear me up fellas...

Larry has been here 5 years, and the pitching has gotten worse and worse. I don't know what else you need to know. It's not like he inherited injured pitchers, they got hurt while he was here, and the rest sucked.

That's just not true is it, Goony? He maybe has been here five years, but Hendry et al has given him crap to work with, too, isn't that right?

The pitching sucked mostly because there was no talent. The talent Larry had mostly got better, not worse. (Hill, Zambrano, Dempster when he got regular work)

I recall Hendry also signing two guys named Howry and Eyre...and if they continue to sign proven pitchers rather than trying to make AA pitchers into major leaguers, then the numbers will get better.

A man is only as good as the ingredients he's given to work with.
