That's just not true is it, Goony? He maybe has been here five years, but Hendry et al has given him crap to work with, too, isn't that right?

What's not true?

Larry has been here 5 years, he came on board with a healthy staff, and with some of the best young talent in the game. The pitching was good, but it's gotten worse and worse, and more and more injured.

That is true.

He's had more to work with than 80% of the pitching coaches out there.

You have got to be kidding me. Larry was given Wood and Prior. He was given good talent to work with?

Six finger

Estes

Remlinger

Mark Guthrie

Jason Bere

Kyle Farnsworth (who never improved after he left).

Who am I missing in the greatly talented cubs pitching staffs past?

He clearly wasn't given great talent...when he is given good talent (Eyre and Howry and Zambrano and to an extent Matt Clement...he does good with it).

Obviously I'm missing something here.

And if it is true according to B. Miles that Dusty did often over rule Larry, than this whole thing is dumb to argue about, because what can the pitching coach do when the boss says no?

Zambrano isn't talent? You conveniently make a list of less than stellar pitchers. Congrats. Larry was given more young talent to work with than almost any other PC over the past 5 years.

The results have been poor, but you don't seem to mind.

So they wait until now for a second opinion? They are going to strengthen the shoulder instead of surgery. You would have thought they would have been doing that all year but... This buys them time until Spring Training.

Rothschild has interviews in a few of the papers today about moving forward with the pitching staff. Here are a few comments about Prior.

Bruce Miles / The Daily Herald[/url]"] “With Mark, we all have to understand there are things that have impacted where he is right now, and one of the things was the collision with (Atlanta’s Marcus) Giles,” Rothschild said. “It didn’t show up right away because, after the collision, he pitched well the rest of that year. It slowly, I think, had an effect on his shoulder.

“That, in combination of getting hit (on the right elbow) with the line drive (in 2005). … I don’t know that I’ve seen him throw as well since then as well has he had before that.

“It’s not to say that he can’t come back because he should, but I don’t know that we can go to spring training depending on that and being left short. I think we’re approaching it that we need to get the rotation set, and if he’s back, it’s going to be a luxury for us.”

I think Mark has to get this stuff straightened out ASAP. I still believe that he took steroids but that's just my opinion.

He worked with Tom House and that the area had a lot of the stuff floating around. Also, his calves are huge, maybe they have always been since he was a kid, but that could be another clue. Since baseball refuses to test for HGH we'll never know who is and who isn't.

LMAO. Now there is a physical profile of HGH/steroid users based on calf size?

You have to look for abnormalities.

The calf thing has been known about Prior going back to college. Do they have testing there? Didn't he pitch for Team USA during that timeframe too?

During college is when he had House around. I don't know if he was tested pitching for team USA. Do you recall any players being tested positive from that time from any country? I'm just curious if he had them in HS.

I have large calves compared to my thighs. I guess I'm on HGH too. 8)

If Prior was on illegal substances, more than his calves would be developed, especially his thighs, as he's a power pitcher. Prior is not developed at all.

Dude had some freak arm injuries...and he's had subsequent problems. There's no conspiracy theories or illegal substances behind it.

Does Jason Grimsley look stacked to you? I didn't think so.

Grimsley has a neanderthal head

So you're saying that bobbleheads are on steroids too?

What's your point? You point to physical attributes (which are not uncommon btw) as proof but then you point to the absence of them in another case?

You can't have it both ways.

Different steroids work different ways. Some can be used for body mass and others can be used to heal faster (modern medicine uses them all the time to rehab injuries).

The total meltdown Prior had points to something drastic happening (Giles, linedrive, etc), not the lack of steroids/HGH, which would tend to manifest later in the season after his body wasn't recovering as fast as normal.
