They will hustle, it wont be a problem. My players always hustle.

I hate this emoticon, but

He was asked about whether his players would hustle.

He seemed to think it was a silly question.

Oh. I guess I should listen to the presser for context. Thanks.

I redirect my rolled eyes at the questioner

It was Bruce Levine and it was an obvious shot at Aram.

Bruce Levine is such an idiot...I'm so sick of that media inflated issue.

Very impressed with the press conference. I think a lot of the anti-Lou discussion was propelled by some unfounded fears. We'll see how he does starting next spring.

Obviously the big key will be acquiring better players. If the reports of the payroll are true, they should be active. Lets hope it is spent wisely.

Actions speak louder than words, but if Lou manages like it sounds like he will, I think he won't hinder the Cubs, which is all you can ask for.

Outside of liking to "force the issue" and the NL style of play, he said all of the right things.

I think it's a given that any available manager will have that philosophy and overuse the sac bunt and try to "make things happen". I'm not that worried about it, it's not like Girardi or Bochy would be different.

I'm excited because Lou actually acknowledged that the lack of walks is something that needs to be worked on.

I only wish someone asked him about pitcher abuse.

I thought they did? Or was that about using young pitchers?

I actually like what he's saying. I like the comment that he lets the players play.

..wasn't able to listen; what do you like about that statement? Players play, pitchers pitch, hitters hit, coaches coach, writers write, posters post, etc.....sounds meaningless to me...what was the context?

I like that he said he tells the pitcher to throw strikes, and the rest of the decisions come from the pitching coach.

A good hands-off approach is great, especially if the rumors about Dusty ignoring Larry were true.

IMHO, he said all the right things. I actually felt that the Cubs made the right decision.

However, talk is cheap. Let's wait and see the action.

It was in the context of taking walks. He said that he'd occasionally give the "take" sign, but more often than not, he trusts the hitters to go up there and hit.

I think he meant that ideally he'd just be in the shadows and the players would produce on their own. Meaning he'd like as much of a "hands off" approach as possible.

I liked almost everything he said. I definitely got the impression that they are gonna spend a lot of money this offseason. I also like his comments on not waiting for the 3 run homer. I think that is something that the Cubs need to get away from(sitting back and waiting for the big bomb). It also seems like his coaching staff is very important and plays a big role in the team. Due to this they better hire some good guys. Not happy about Rothschild being back, but oh well.

I'm glad Dusty is gone, but I'm going to remain skeptical of Lou. I'm in a place right now where I need to see to believe. He's gonna have to show me.

He was saying he is in the background and just a small part of the team. I took this to mean he's not going to try and have his signature all over everything that happens on the field, like Dusty did with all the pitch outs, sac bunts, etc, etc. But then his later comments said otherwise. I think it was mostly an acknowledgement that the team's results depend on the players.

Ditto for Hendry. If he has a quality offseason, Lou's flaws will be greatly minimized.

The Cubs got away from the "wait for the 3 run homer" approach last season. They tried to make things happen on the basepaths, and do the little things.

It didn't work out well.

Thank You! I was trying to articulate my words and had trouble doing so.

gotcha...not a bad notion with the appropriate lineup...

You can't try and get away from the things you've never been near.

3-run homers are good things. Sac bunts and making things happen waste outs and decrease your run totals, and are therefore bad things.
