Just started listening to WSCR online, and there has been some interesting talk about all the Rex bashing in Chicago, and why that is happening.

Care to elaborate? I just turned it on and caught the last minute of the Angelo talk

They were talking about how stupid it is to hate Rex right now. They are picking on the "mouth breathers" that want him replaced.

A listener wrote a long letter comparing those people who are bashing Rex to Sox fans who have to talk tough and think the new Bears offense is too northside and wimpy, etc. There were references to homophobes, as well as anti-semitism. I don't know who these announcers are, but I'm guessing one is Bernstein. They basically agreed with the guy, and have talked about how foolish many Chicagoans are when they are so caught up in having a "tough" reputation. From the sound of it, somebody opened an earlier show with a long rant against Grossman and passing in general. And these guys think it was really dumb.

Oh wow, must be a continuation from yesterday's show where the same stuff was going on. There were 2 callers that called in that actually suggested that they bench Grossman and bring in Orton. Man this Rex thing is going to tear apart the Bears fans on this city. And any homophobic or anti-semetic comments are very immature, but Boers and Bernstein are known for stradling the line of decency on the airwaves.

The letter was insinuating that anti-Rex people have used many thinly veiled, or not so thinly veiled, homophobic and anti-semitic comments when justifying their Rex bashing and talking about the host, Bernstein.

And apparantly there's a pretty big Maury Povich watching audience tie-in with the Score, as there have been two commercials for a company playing on the fear that you might not be your baby's daddy.

I don't get the people who thought it would be a good idea to sit Rex for a series or two. What would be the point. This isn't college football. (Man, I sound like these announcers)

You don't treat pros like that. You bench pros and you really run the risk of losing them, and you guarantee that fans will start up an even bigger QB controversy.

Why can't people understand bad games happen and that Rex still does not have 16 starts as a pro? My lord. It's Rich Hill all over again.

I don't get the homophobia aspect of this. Do people think Rex is a homosexual?

I love the wild swings in emotion that people have based on one game. Last week it was "HOW MANY SUPERBOWLS WILL THE BEARS WIN? HOW MANY MVP'S WILL REX WIN?" The next week it's "OH MY GOD REX IS GAY. WE HAVE TO POUND THE BALL. WHAT ABOUT ORTON?"

Seriously, those people are mouth-breathers.

I think it has to do with the talk of the pansiness, wimpiness, "northsiderish", etc. of a passing game, and the need to be more of a tough manly team. I don't think people said Rex is gay, it's just somebody's interpretation of what that all means.

He was saying the mouth breathing Rex haters are the same as the Cubs hating Sox fans who constantly talk about gays and the northside.

My lord, people are dumb.

Person just came on to say Cubs manager job is the worst because ownership doesn't care. When it was pointed out that the dollars are there, the guy said, "but they aren't spending it on the right guys."

I like these hosts. They were screaming, "THAT'S NOT OWNERSHIP, THAT'S MANAGEMENT!!!!!"

I feel like these guys are channeling my thoughts.

I love Boers and Bernstein, they have a great skill in arguing. They stick to their guns and articulate themselves.

Some fans are so fickle.

Boers and Bernstein made a great point yesterday. It's one thing to be watching the game and getting knee jerk "what a terrible throw, we need to bench this guy" out of emotion. It's completely another thing to still be saying that 2 days later when you sit and think about it rationally.

Another point they made, is that the Orton supporters last year used "he's winning, you can't sit him" as their main point, which they are now forgetting while attacking Grossman.

Some of these people are just morons. I was listening yesterday and some moron came on and said bench Grossman, start Griese, and make Orton the second stringer and the starter next year because Grossman is gonna be gone. I wish I knew what the hell he was talking about. Needless to say, Boers and Bernstein ripped him a new one. As someone said earlier, their producer or whoever is taking the calls HAS to put these morons on. There has to be some rational Bears fans in this city, and they all seem to never call into B&B.

Was that the caller that said Grossman won't be back because the Bears are going to use their money to keep Lance Briggs?

Yep, that was him. I really wanna know where these idiots get their ideas from.

This sucks.

And what the heck? McGowan, so close to coming off the PUP list, was suspended for a week for breaking team rules?

I gave up on Monday's game about 5 times and walked away from the TV each time in disgust determined not to come back and go to bed. And yet I kept coming back.

Mike Brown makes me sad.

Actually, I was one of those who wanted to see Rex replaced (in fact, if you look at the game thread, I was advocating bringing in Griese right before Hester returned the punt for a touchdown).

I don't really see the harm in bringing Griese when it is was apparently very clear that Rex wasn't going to lead the Bears on a game winning touchdown drive. At the very worst (best?), Griese leads them on a game winning touchdown drive and it reignites a QB controversy. That can pretty much be squelched by Lovie announcing that Rex is his quarterback and acknowledging that he was just having one of those games that even the best quarterbacks have from time to time.

I would not be too worried what it would do to Rex's psyche. If he couldn't handle it, he's not the right quarterback for the Bears anyway. My guess is that he would have handled it fine and I expect him to bounce back with a good game againt San Fran in two weeks.

On the B/B show yesterday there was one caller who said that they won't pay Rex but will give the $ to Briggs. B/B laughed that off and said that they wouldn't groom Grossman just to let him go. They have been extra patient with him through the injuries. The caller also said that Griese is helping out Orton who is the heir apparent. Weird stuff on that show, but I love B/B. They bring sanity to Chicago sports radio. Edited by Wilson A2000

Well at least you were calling for Griese. Not that I agree, but sensible.

There are still loonies out there that wanna see neckbeard in the game.

I pretty much agree with TOF. Grossman sucked... for that game. His stupid decisions only seemed to get worse. Pulling him late couldn't have done any worse for the team than the 6 turnovers Grossman had already given, and Lovie would have had no trouble silencing all the Tuesday morning quarterbacks and their talk of controversy. If Big Z gives up 5 runs in the first four innings and starts the 5th by walking the bases loaded, you can pull him without skipping his next turn in the rotation. The one bad game doesn't make him a bad pitcher by any means, but leaving him in is also stupid, especially when the Bears have a bunch of Izturises who really DO drive in runs with their gloves.

TACKLING MACHINE: When the coaching staff got done watching the Bears pummel Arizona running back Edgerrin James as the Cardinals tried -- without success -- to run out the clock, middle linebacker Brian Urlacher was credited with 25 tackles, easily a career high. He had 20 at Tampa Bay in 2001
