I love D-Lee but wrist injuries are a big worry for any hitter.

I do think the guy has monstrous value still because he's decently young, he's an amazing athlete, and he's improved as a hitter.

What kind of package do you think we could get for him?

The Tigers are in desperate need of a 1B in their minds and have good young pitching they can deal. Supposedly, they may be dangling Bonderman this offseason for a big bat.

A D-Lee for Bonderman + prospect deal would be a coup to me. Bonderman gives us a young, improving ace.

I don't want to say we could easily replace Lee, cause he's our best everyday player by far. But moving ARam to first and letting Moore show us what he's got doesn't seem like a bad idea.'

Thoughts?

The Cubs should get more than just Jeremy Bonderman and a prospect for DLee if they did trade him. But if they are going to trade him, the Cubs should just blow up the team and trade everybody.

I don't see the Cubs trading Lee. Talk of a Sammy trade was different, because there was lots of negative talk about Sammy, and he was approaching free agency. In this case, Derrek is signed through 2010, has a no-trade clause, and more importantly, "nobody doesn't like Derrek Lee."

From a baseball standpoint it could be a smart thing, I just don't see how they pull it off, without getting ugly. You'd have to convince him to accept a deal, and the Cubs way of doing that is apparantly to bad mouth a guy, and/or suck until the guy wants out.

There is no way they trade Derrek Lee. He is now the face of this organiztaion and they will not be trading him. I don't think I would want Bonderman either, with that big slider he throws hes almost guaranteed to need Tommy John in a few years.

How would trading Lee be a smart thing? Assuming that he comes back normally, he fills arguably our most important position, plays hard...and is our best hitter.

Just asking, I suppose there is a potential deal that would make sense, but it wouldn't be realistic...

We might. Hendry won't.

I doubt the Cubs trade Lee, unless they are in FULL, I repeat, FULL rebuilding mode, ala the Marlins. And right now, I don't see the Cubs in that mode, until either the current core gets really old, or really bad<---I mean worse then 2006 bad.

Trade Lee for Arod and then trade for Dunn to play 1B.

CF Lofton

LF Murton

SS Arod

1b Dunn

3b Ramirez

RF Jones

C Barrett

2b Theriot or other FA

I think that line-up would be alright.

How about Murton, Barrett, ARod, Dunn, Ramirez, Jones, Pie, Theriot/FA 2B ?

DLee looked ok to me in his post-2nd time off the DL stretch. I wouldn't move him unless I was blown away. And there's a little thing called an NTC too.

How is first base our most important position?

Remember, Ramirez has outproduced Lee in 2 of the 3 years they have been teammates. DLee might retake that lead next season, but you never know.

It's not really a wrist injury, though, it's an arm injury.

Anyway, I agree with TT's take on Lee. I wanted to trade him while his value was high after 2005. We might still be able to get a good return on him if the right deal came along, but it's less likely.

If he's playing uninjured and doing well and the team was very obviously trying to go young and cheap a la the Marlins it could be very smart. I don't think they will do this or should they at this point, but under the right circumstances trading Lee could be very, VERY smart.

I'd trade him & all the high priced talent as we are not in position to compete next year w/ our position players or pitching staff or outfield defense. Way too many holes. Hire Girardi, trade Lee, Aram & Barrett, Prior & build through the farm system ala the Miami Marlin/D Rays.

the Marlins and Devil Rays do that because they have to. There's no reason the Cubs, as a big market team, should have to start from scratch with our crappy farm system. They should be spending money and trying to compete while building up a farm system, as they appeared to be doing up until a few years ago. Besides, only Barrett would be worth trading at this point. Ramirez couldn't be traded (assuming he signs an extension) and Prior and Lee are both pretty low in terms of value right now.
