My preseason SuperBowl pick was Chargers/Giants. Everyone at work laughed at me for picking SD. Gotta think about it. SD was the #1 team against the run last year, brought back their entire front 7, with the exception of Foley, who was replaced with a player who is at worst, a lateral move. Their pass rush is better due to experience, making their pass defense better. They lost like 7 games last year by 7 or fewer points, and they played probably the toughest schedule. Plus, Rivers has a better arm than Brees. Not as good a passer, yet, but pretty close, and with more big play ability.

Easier schedule this year + #1 run defense + improved everywhere else = serious contender.

The Giants are looking good now that they started to play defense. Most well rounded offensive team in the league.

I won't be leading the ATS picks after this week.

At least you aren't 0-11 which I think I am

Didn't you win the Carolina game?

Whoops, your totally right 1-10

You must have been pretty bombed last night if you didn't pick Chargers over 49ers.

I thought the 49ers were playing well enough to cover the spread :(

I think that the Chargers are either the best or second best team in football, with their opponent being the Bears. Now that Marty is letting Rivers go wild, they look unstoppable.

I love everything about San Diego but their coach. I wouldn't have laughed at the AFC side of your prediction.

The NFC side on the other hand... :)

No Sunday night game next week huh? They don't want to compete against the World Series I presume? I wonder if MLB and NFL have an arrangement about that.

Doesn't MLB know that the season is over since around June 1st?

Yeah, I hate Shotty. But I had to pick the Giants. I really like their team. They have Eli coming into his own. Their skill players are in their prime. They have a ton of defensive talent. And I have a thing against picking my team. Unfortunately, I'm usually right when NOT picking the Bears and Cubs.

Don't forget Barber, he was looking amazing against a very good Run D today.

I think the two leagues do have an arrangment-I can't remember a Sunday night game during the World Series for a few years at least.

Dare I say that the Raiders are showing signs of life? Their front 7 has done a decent job of pressuring Plummer and stopping the running game. They really need to get a better QB then Walter though geez.

Unfortunately for me, they're probably going to get one in April.

Are you Brady Quinn?

 No, just a Quinn fan that would rather see him in Detroit where he'd at least have a prayer. No one can win in Oakland.

Same thing I said about them after week 1. They look good.

Uhh...I know the bars love in here is great, but Hass is still the best QB in the NFC.

McNabb?

Exactly. The Hasslebeck love is a little overboard after yesterdays game. I'm ok if people don't want to put Rex there yet. I think he's in the discussion, but I wouldn't get mad about his exclusion. But McNabb is clearly the best in the NFC.

Posted

Really? McNabb? Did we not see him implode last season? I think that we are overvaluing his performace this season and not considering his body of work.

Who would you rather start a team with? I am firmly with the smarter QB Hass then the improv nature of McNabb.

If the argument is over who the best QB is this season, I'll take McNabb's 58.7%, 1849, 13/2 over Hass's 60.4%, 1122, 9/7. Looks like McNabb is ahead on career numbers too.

edit: They've also experienced comparable levels off success, so I think I would rather start the season with McNabb.

The career stats are debateable. Hasselbeck has a higher completion percentage and QB rating. McNabb has more yardage and TD's. They're around the same place in INT's.

This year though, McNabb has been a LOT better, and that's enough for me to say he's the best in the NFC right now.

McNabb this season has a QB rating 20 points higher than Hasselbeck. McNabb has 13 TD's to Hass's 9, and 2 picks to Hass's 7. There was even a bigger disparity in those stats before yesterdays games.

Lastly, McNabb hasn't had the benefit of a Shaun Alexander for the running game.

EDIT: One more thing...if McNabb imploded last season, what did Hasselbeck do against the Bears? I'm not trying to be a homer here, I'm really not, I just don't see where he's better than McNabb.

Bears

Chargers

Colts

Everyone else...

Are the Saints for real?

Are the Steelers gonna play like that the rest of the season?

I think you have to add the Panthers to that list.

If I had to pick the playoffs:

NFC Division Winners:

Giants

Panthers

Bears

Hawks

WC: Rams, Eagles

I can't even do the AFC right now other then the Pats and Colts. I think the Broncs and Bolts are in but I don't have a clue which one wins the division. Two of Bengals/Steelers/Ravens/Jags don't make the playoffs, and if I had to guess it would be Ravens and Jags on the outside, but them getting inwould surprise me less then say the Vikes or Cowboys.

To be fair, Hasselbeck hasn't had that benefit this season either. A few mediocre showings and a few weeks injured isn't much support.

I would probably switch the Giants and Eagles personally, but other than that I agree with your NFC.
