Do you Chicago people realize that your teams play in the worst conferences/leagues in pro sports, except for hockey? The Cubs in the NL, Bears in the NFC and the Bulls in the East?

The Central Division is pretty good. Four of the five teams are over .500. It's the rest of the East that stinks.

True but you have to admit overall the Chicago teams are a little lucky in this regard.

I don't see your point. So would somebody who is a Knicks, Mets, Giants and Rangers fan. What about Philly fans?

Furthermore, it's not like this is a hard and fast rule. The NFC used to reign, and will again. The NBA West wasn't always dominant. Neither was the AL.

Exactly. In the 90's when the Bulls were on the run, wasn't the East considered the dominant conference like the West is now?

Yup-it went a little back and forth, but there were multiple times where the Eastern Conference Finals had what experts believed to be the two best teams in the league in it.

Well let me think....is this a Chicago Bull thread or a Met thread?

I'm commenting on how weak those conferences are, I suppose I didn't realize I touched a nerve but just mentioned a fact. I never said that the East was always bad did I? No. I just mentioned that right now they are not as good as the other. Am I wrong?

You specified that Chicago teams are lucky. The fact that other teams/cities are in the same boat would negate the point. You also didn't say a think about "right now".

You statement was "do you Chicago people realize your teams play in the worst conferences", and that "overall Chicago teams are lucky".

I fail to see the point.

Don't you think they are fortunate to be in those conferences/leagues right now? I'm not saying they are the only ones but I was just commenting to a Chicago based fan board. Yeah, there are others that are just as fortunate, if the word lucky bothers you that much. Will those conferences/leagues be weak all the time, heck no. I was just making an observation.

be careful about saying anything bad about John Paxson around here.

I dont know where that comment came from. I don't think anyone has blindly defended him. The only times I see people really defend his moves is when people jump to the conclusion that he should be fired. I think he's done a wonderful job turning this team around and making us into a perenial playoff team.

I think Skiles should play Tyrus Thomas more, but that has nothing to do with Paxson. Paxson has assembled a pretty solid team that can compete in the present and still have a very bright future. I'm pleased with the job he's done so far.

It isn't hard to assemble a perianial playoff team, especially in the east. I'm still convinced he doesn't understand the concept of inside scoring.

To be fair, he hasn't had many chances at inside scoring in drafts (and as I remember, you wanted Brandon Roy over Tyrus Thomas - TT is much more of an inside presence).

There are reasons to criticize Paxson - but I think your way of comparing him to other Chicago GMs based on championship game appearances isn't that great. Also, we don't truly know exactly what Jerry West and the Grizzlies were asking for Gasol, I have no problem in not parting with a combo of Deng and another valuable player on the team as some rumors indicated. Paxson has done a commendable job building up a young team from nothing, he has certainly made a few mistakes but which GM doesn't?

No, I don't think they are fortunate. I think it's kind of silly to even bring up. Lots and lots of teams play in relatively weak divisions or conferences. You also leave out the White Sox, who play in a really tough division. The notion that Chicago teams are particularly lucky about where they play just doesn't make any sense. The Cubs are in a weak division, okay. But the Bulls division isn't weak. And while the Bears isn't all that strong, it's no weaker than some others. The Sox might play in the toughest division, and the Blackhawks play in one of the tougher divisions. And again, this stuff changes year-in and year-out. So I'm failing to see where luck is involved.

Why? I mentioned the Eastern Conference in basketball but you keep saying division for some reason. It's a Cubs board so I admit I had more of a Cub slant to that but again I mentioned LEAGUE not divison. The Bears, well isn't a fact the AFC has better for years? What is so hard to believe about that and that those teams are fortunate to be playing in them?

How are they fortunate? Maybe if teams switched leagues all the time, and the Chicago teams routinely found themselves in the weakest one, you'd have a point. I just don't get it.

Starting off your premise with a "Do you Chicago people realize" opening, and suggesting fans of Chicago teams are very lucky isn't a good way to try and make a point.

Maybe I could have worded it better but I think you get the basic idea of what I'm trying to say and are just arguing semantics.

I wanted Roy over Thomas b/c then we could have spinned Gordon off for the big man we so desperately need right now. We forced 20-plus TOs last night, but got out-rebounded by almost 20.

I wanted either Alridge or Roy. Either would have been fine by me. As someone has previously stated, Roy or Gordon could have been spun for a big guy. He fumbled the football last draft. Bottom line.

I'm sorry we can't petition our sports teams to move conferences.

Ben Gordon has 15 points in the 1st quarter against Golden State.

He ended up with 18, on 7-12 shooting. In the first quarter.

The Bulls lead 31-28.

What the hell?

That was way out of line. Consider this a warning. The next time you say anything like that, you've got a temporary ban.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard "Bulls" and "blew a 15 point lead" in the same sentence.

Scott. Skiles.

Luckily, the Bulls are facing Golden State tonight and have pushed the lead back up to 14. This run has been spurred with TT on the court. Coincidence? I think not.

Solid win.

Plus it was nice seeing Thabo and Tyrus that much down the stretch.

It was definitely nice to see them play a lot and play quite well.

Much needed win, even if it did come against a team that can't play D worth a lick.

I think my friend told me this stat (although it may have been posted here, I'm just too lazy to look it up), but when Ty Thomas plays more than 15 minutes in a game, the Bulls are something like 12-1.

That is probably correlated to the fact he gets alot of minutes in garbaaage time.

He certainly looked terrible tonight. Awful pick. Fire Paxson.

Give it a rest. Enjoy the 30-point win.
