Said he thought right now that the likely destinations were Girardi to Washington and Piniella to Chicago. He "heard" that the people in the Cubs front-office weren't really that interested in Girardi and were only entertaining it because of the local pressure, and that they were interested in Piniella.

Sounds like a Cub-like move...

This is sick if its true...Typical Cubs..Just don't get it...Girardi managing the Cubs is a match made in heaven...We need the younger blood managing this team..Not another Dusty Baker....Also, if we get Girardi, that would mostly bring in pitching coach Rick Kranitz...which would be great for our young arms..This guy knows what hes doin... For the love of God jimbo..Sign Girardi!!!!!!

While I don't want Piniella, I still can't see how Girardi and the Cubs are a match made in heaven.

I'd rather have someone who is not so tied to the conventional wisdom, small ball, method of management.

Largely, Vance, I agree with you. However, I REALLY don't want Piniella, and while Girardi is a bit of a conventional wisdom type of guy, I don't think he is to the same extent as many of the other old-school types. I would not complain at all if we hired Girardi (even if he's not perfect), but I sure would complain if we hired Piniella.

Until a hire is made, I'll still hold out hope for a good hire, not an acceptable one. I'm not sold on Girardi at all. And from what the Marlins bloggers had to say, my fears about Girardi seem to be well-founded.

I'm hoping that Hendry's deliberance in this process is a sign that he will look at numerous candidates and not just the ones who have been reported thus far.

I will not go to a Cubs game next year if the Cubs hire Piniella, and I'd advise you all to do the same. What a stupid idiotic just pathetic organization.

Oy vey....

Out of the frying pan and into the fire?

I wonder if Hendry isn't 'delaying' until Giardi gets hired, so then it looks like he couldn't choose him, and it wouldn't be such a PR fiasco.

I wonder what the TB management and the bloggers feel about Lou?

Hendry is in tight situation right now....Lou Pinellia is, IMO, Hendry choice to replace Baker, but he knows that majority of people in Chicago wants Joe Girardi as manager. Which would put MORE pressure on Piniella to win (more then Baker faced inhis four yrs) because he wouldn't be "The people's choice". Now, this is prolly the reason why Hendry is going to move slowly to get a manager, in hopes by the time his deadline approaches, Girardi is hired by another organization(Nats), and he would be freed to sign Piniella. But the chances are, by the time he's ready to get Piniella, he may not be available, and Girardi would be gone, which would leave Hendry with the likes of Showalter, among other others (and sorry Vance, I don't see Dierker going to even get a call for an interview).

And I don't want Piniella, simply because Rothschild would be guarantee back, when in reality the Cubs need a new voice at pitching coach. You know someone preaching outs on few pitches.

This is one of the big reasons why I want Girardi. I think the effect that Kranitz had with the young pitchers in FLorida would translate back to the pitchers that he already knows here from when he was with the Cubs. Kranitz is just another perk that Girardi has going for him. I also have seen Rothschild here for over 5 years now and the only consistent and healthy pitcher during that time has been Zambrano. Also something that has been overlooked is that Girardi was a good defensive catcher and called good games behind the plate. I think that his advice and experience would help out Michael Barrett tremendously. Calling games is not one of Michaels specialties, and I think that Girardi would be a good mentor for him.

I don't seen Piniella being hired by anyone else unless Torre quits or is fired. That's what worries me since both Brenly and Girardi have other teams supposedly after them, which leaves [expletive] Sweet Lou waiting patiently when Hendry comes a-callin'.

Can Hendry please turn his blinders off and actually start giving serious consideration to other candidates?

It's like Brenly, Girardi, and Piniella are the only candidates out there right now!

He's just playing coy and is getting ready to sign Dave Duncan to manage.
