This is would I think would be the best:

Manager: Girardi

Pitching Coach: Rick Kranitz

Hitting Coach: Mark Grace

Bench Coach: Rick Sutcliffe

1st Base: Shawon Dunston

3rd Base: Chris Speier

Unrealistic but that would be a very fun staff to watch and see work together.

Why in the world do you think it's a good idea to just put a bunch of ex-Cubs with no coaching experience on the staff? I don't get the love for guys who have been a part of the losing past?

Shawon Dunston is a name I hadn't thought of. Didn't he help out in ST a couple years ago? I loved how he ran his hardest on every single play, regardless of whether it was a base hit to right or a tapper back to the pitcher. He'd make a nice addition to a coaching staff.

Cause he was a hell of a hard worker, and pretty good on the basepaths from what I remember. I think he'd be a good 1st or 3rd base coach. And he's a pretty vibrant guy, and I like having coaches that are likeable.

Well, he sucked, had a horrible approach, and there's no evidence whatsoever that he has any qualifications to coach.

Perfect example of a crappy hustler by the way. Ramirez jogging is 800 times better than Dunston running out another ground ball out.

Von Joshua

Ron Jackson for hitting coach, he was let go by the Red Sox. That way, you can keep Von at the minor league levels, working with guys you might still be able to instill a new hitting approach with.

If Girardi is not the manager and Kranitz isn't the pitching coach, I'd love to see Orel Hershiser be a pitching coach again...

Yeah, if Girardi comes, Kranitz better come along. Have no problem with Orel as a pitching coach (but I don't want him to manage - I know UK likes him as a manager, I don't).

What do you look for in a 1st or 3rd base coach?

Ok.....I wouldn't have a problem with him being the "hustle coach", but he really should not be instructing anyone on topics such as strike zone judgment/plate discipling, swinging a bat, fielding, throwing, or baserunning.

At least somebody who has done that somewhere else. And preferably somebody who can teach something else, like help with the hitters or fielding practice. I doubt Dunston can teach any pro ballplayers much of anything.

Exactly. The only good thing is you say he's a hard worker and apparently most of the previous coaching staff wasn't.

But he has to teach/work on the right things as a hard worker, and given what Shawon did during his playing days, I don't know if that's likely.

(And Shawon was my favorite baseball player when I was about, say 8.)

Boy, for someone who's a NSBB Hall of Famer, you sure have a nice attitude. :?

And what's the attitude you don't like? The fact that I'm not enamored with bringing back failed ex-Cubs to coach this team? The fact that I'm not enamored with mediocrity or nostalgia for a team that has been nothing but terrible for most of my life? The fact that I actually what the Cubs to hire the best people and find the most productive players they can, regardless of past affiliation to the team?

You don't like that attitude?

Manager: Brad Mills

Hitting Coach: Ron Jackson

Pitching Coach: Rich Kranitz (or Rick Petersen - doubtful)

1st Base Coach: Bob Dernier

3rd Base Coach: Pat Listach

Bench Coach: Mike Quade

Can you give more details on Mills? I know he used to be the Cubs advanced scout. I'm guessing he has similar opinions as Francona since they seem to go everywhere together.

I get what your saying, but who would you want then? All of these good coaches you talk about probably already have jobs. Thats why they are good.

Sorry, but you just seem really touchy, agitated, and grouchy. Fine, if you want to be that way, but geez...it's only a game.

Have fun...life is short! :)
