I want the new manager to have all his people and it'll help recruiting a good manager.

Don't get happy yet...

According to sources, each coach was told he would be welcome to return if he is wanted by the new manager.

At least it would be his choice....I hope. I still feel that Rothschild is going to come back.

I really really hope not. he did absolutely nothing to improve our young pitching staff.

My story on the coaches points to the past working relationship between Piniella and Rothschild. If Piniella comes here, Rothschild has a chance to come back. If Girardi is the guy, Rick Kranitz will be the pitching coach.

I've heard Girardi and Kranitz have a great relationship and Girardi gives Kranitz a lot of the credit for the Marlins' rookie pitcher's success.

And there's another reason for not getting Piniella...don't want Rothschild back.

I agree with you on this. What do you know about Kranitz?

Rick is an outstanding instructor. He was Greg Maddux's first pitching coach way back when. You remember when Jaime Navarro had a good year with the Cubs? Kranitz gets a lot of credit for that. He worked in the Cubs' minor-league system for a long time, and you saw the results he got with the Marlins' young pitchers. He'd be terrific. And to be fair, Rick will give Larry a lot of credit for his own professional development. It's fashionable to pick on Rothschild, and it will be a tough sell to the public to bring him back, but he worked very hard, and some of the stuff that went on wasn't his fault.

Thanks Bruce for that info....I would like to know more about the relationship between Baker and Rothschild and Rothschild and the pitchers. You touched on something that has bothered me the whole time involving these two relationships. Do you know how they were and did they have a conflict between the two? For some reason I just don't see Larry and Dusty as having a close relationship, a professional one for the fans and press to see but IMO they just seemed to not get along or had different philosophies.

You've hit it pretty good. They got along, but Dusty would have been better served listening to and following Larry's advice instead of overruling him. Funny thing, Larry had the most contact with the media of any of Dusty's coaches by far. I don't know if it was part of Dusty's us-against-them philosophy or what, but I won't miss it. The coaches under Riggleman and Baylor all were friendly and accessible. You will see a totally different dynamic and a much more open atmosphere with the new coaching staff beginning in spring training. I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks and I'm sure you are. Baker seemed to have a distrust of the media guys and just never seemed to embrace Chicago IMO.

Due to who you believe is likely to get the job, or just an assumption based on Baker's boys being the most difficult you've been around and therefore the next batch can only be better? Are you assuming McDonough will try and influence the choice in that direction, given his background?

Hey Bruce, do you have any idea where all of the lying about injuries came from? If it was the coaches, I'd love to look forward to a season where I might actually know who's injured and for how long. If the traning staff or Hendry was dictating it.... ugh.

I'm looking forward to a season in which I don't know anybody who's injured.

Training staff hasn't been canned yet (and they shoulda been the first to go), so I don't see a healthy team happening.

You sound like you already know who's coming in

Girardi's infield coach in Florida is also widely considered the best in the business as well, Perry Hill. Anyone know if all the coaches were fired or just Girardi?

Nevermind, found it...

As for Gonzalez's staff, he plans on having discussions with three of the coaches with Marlins this past season. Hitting coach Jim Presley, pitching coach Rick Kranitz and infield coach Perry Hill will be considered to return.

Not expected back are bench coach Gary Tuck, third base coach Bobby Meacham and bullpen coach Mike Harkey.

The team also is considering some coaches from within the organization being promoted to the big-league level.

A possible bench coach candidate is Pat Corrales, who is not returning as the Braves bench coach.

Another reason why it's stupid to delay. Assistant coaches aren't going to sit around waiting for the Cubs to ask them out. They are going to take a job if it's offered, because for the most part, these aren't guys who have made $1m a year for the past few years. When you wait to hire the "right" manager, you often times miss out on his first choices for assistant coaches, just like how Jauron ended up with the scraps when he was hired late. Hire a manager by tomorrow, and give him a chance to get whomever he wants.
