Mark Grace is nice?

I've met him several times, and he was nice to me. So, of course, I will have nothing but nice things to say about him. Doesn't mean, I don't know his flaws, but I refused to focus on those flaws.

If I didn't know better I'd think this article was completely made-up. I thought Grace already burned all his Cub bridges?

I believe the beef was between him and MacPhail, and it seems like he was good relationship with McDonough

Grace was considered persona non grata around MacPhail's Cubs until this summer, when now interim President John McDonough invited him to lead the crowd in singing "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" on Aug. 3. He also invited Grace to attend the Cubs Convention this winter.

I think that Mark Grace would make a great hitting coach, not manager because he doesn't have the experience yet. He did have the most hits of any player in the decade between 1990 and 2000. Despite my moniker grace isn't even my favorite of that era. Sandberg and Maddux were the ones I admired the most, same thing with Michael Jordan. But I wouldn't want any of those guys coaching. In my oppinion the guys who have the most talent have the most difficult time coaching because the things that they can/could do aren't easily translated into words. Guys like Grace however who had to work harder for their talent to show seem to understand how to relate to the everyday player and help him. Does that make sense? Either way Grace was a hell of a fielder and quite a hitter, who took pitches, walked almost 2 times more than he k'ed and valued obp. TThats why I think he's got a lot of knowledge to share.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing Grace on board to be the hitting coach or the 1st or 3rd base coach. Not to manage the team though.

In my eyes, Grace definitely burned his Cub bridges, and I just plain don't like the guy. If the Cubs gave him a chance, I'd probably be looking for anything I could find to nitpick him.

(And I'd gladly stuff my face full of crow if he came here and turned out to be a healthy contributor to a Cubs WS.)

I seem to recall Grace being thought of as lazy who skated by on his natural ability rather than actually putting in the time and effort to become a great player. If true, he'd probably make a horrible hitting coach.

Of course that's anecdotal evidence, that I'm not even sure I'm rememberring correctly, so yeah.
