Obviously, Dusty will be "let go" on Monday. In what order do you think these other events will happen (of course, some are based on hope)?

1. Cubs name a new manager.

2. Wood re-signed.

3. ARam's contract extended.

4. Cubs make a minor trade or sign a minor free agent (non-starter).

5. Cubs sign a major free agent.

6. Cubs make a major trade.

In order:

New Manager

Minor Trade

Wood Resigned

Aramis Extended

Major Free Agent

Not listed: Major trade.

MY preferred order?

Aramis Extended

New Manager

Major Trade

Major Free Agent

Wood Extended

Minor Trade

My preference.

Baker let go

Aramis extended

Wood resinged

Miller signed

Major FA

Major Trade

Trib sells cubs

New management fires hendry and MacPhail

New management hires good GM and president

New management ups payroll to $150 mil and insists GM takes advantage

New GM makes another Major sign

New GM makes a # of significant minor and major trades taking advantage of new salary able to offer teams significant "salary releif" in exchange for only some minor players from the Cubs farm system.

Cubs kick ass.

That sure is a scary list of predictions. You forgot #8 - Hendry fired for allowing #1-7.

When is the last time the cubs signed a Major free agent. Seriously.

Probably Moises Alou.

#31

I'd hardly call that major. He was an old starting pitcher with just a little left in the tank. When I say major free agent I mean Giles, Drew, Ordonez, Furcal, and the like (those are the ones right off the top of my head the last few years).

If all of those scenarios occur, I will become a full fledged Yankee fan.

I don't care in which order they happen as long as they all happen.

Don't be ridiculous.

Why would Hendry be fired?

The tickets are selling, the concession money is rolling in, Andy's getting his bonuses - all is well in Cubland!

Actually, it sounds more like Andy got his pink slip.

Andy offered to tender his resignation.

Since Buffet Boy really wants to bring back RumDum, they "fired" The Sweater Vest Kid to throw the fan base a bone so there won't be a 100% revolt when Dusty's extension is announced tomorrow.

The MacPhail resignation/firing and appointment of McDonough as interim President, plus the fact that the Trib has hired consultants to consider sale of strategic assets, all point to a 2-year transition period:

1. MacPhail resigns

2. Baker fired

3. Brenly hired (2 yr contract). Coaching staff (ex. Spier) fired.

4. Stone back to the booth

5. Negotiations with Pierre fail (I hope).

6. ARam extended

7. Wood signed

8. Trib bumps payroll to breakeven budget (around $110-115 mil.). [Fitzsimmons' ego wants to see the Cubs win and the $15-$20 mil. in profits the Cubs generate for the Trib won't sink him or save him.]

9. Soriano signed

10. Zito signed

11. Miller (or other back of rotation starter) signed

12. OF bat to platoon with Jones signed.

13. Izturis and Dempster dealt for bench/bullpen filler.

14. Matthews Jr. or Lofton signed to fill CF until Pie is ready.

I like the way you think.
