USSoccer, you inadvertantly typed "Mark O'Neal" when you meant to type "The Ridiculous Jim Hendry".

O'Neal's authority in this matter is precisely zero.

I think that sounds a bit selfish and shortsighted. Maybe the Cubs can sign McGriff and have him try to get his 500th HR while they're at it.

No I want Jose Canseco. I want to see if he can allow a ball to go off his coconut size head, and into the bleachers of Wrigley Field.

That's the only past-his-prime power hitter, I want.

As much as I hate the idea of Z coming back to pitch, I love the attitude. The Cubs need more Z type players and more managerial types with enough common sense to tell him 'no'.

They'll let him pitch and we'll hear the good 'ol "the team comes first, personal accolades come second" line. They'll justify it by saying that since the team didn't succeed as planned they want to help Carlos get the recognition that he deserves.

Z isn't going to win the Cy Young this year.

Webb: 15-6, 3.00 ERA, 1.16 WHIP

Carp: 14-6, 2.84 ERA, 1.04 WHIP

Z: 14-6, 3.50 ERA, 1.31 WHIP

Both Webb and Carp are more deserving than Z is.

I'm not all that excited by guys who are so motivated by individual awards.

With pitchers I usually don't mind because they know that more wins will win them the Cy Young award and obviously if your pitcher gets a win then your team will as well. But in this case Z should realize that wins don't matter anymore this year because the season is over and that he could seriously hurt himself by pitching more.

Well, a few new parks HAVE been built since McGriff retired....he should come back to try for homers in Citizen's Bank Park and the GAB

Excellent post! Leadership from management? I'm all for it.

Absolutely stupid if he pitches sometime this year, and management should be fired immediately if they are thinking about letting him. Of course, this is the Cubs, so we know he will pitch again this year and that management is all for it.

If management lets Z come back already, then this organziation has no freakin' clue.

Oh, wait, I guess that means Baker will leave him out there for a +120 pitches in a start sometime this weekend.
