This has been, without a doubt, the worst season I've ever witnessed as a Cubs fan (Not the most disappointing though.. That goes to 2003)..

Anyway, with no chance of getting into the postseason this year, and with the cruddy way this team is playing, I was wondering if its possible if this team would be able to scratch out even one win the rest of the way?

So, I say there's no more wins this year. How many more wins do you guys think the Cubs will muster?

Actually, they'll probably go 18-2 and Buffet Boy will give RumDum a two year extension.

"Obviously, we're not happy with the way this season went, but we saw some encouraging signs these last three weeks. I feel I owe it to Dusty to let him finish what he started." - Harry

Unfortunately, "what he started" is the process of turning the once "lovable losers" into the most despicable franchise in sports.

My guess is...the Cubs won't make it to 60 wins, and thus will hit the 100 loss mark. Put that on your resume, Dusty, and see if you get the job you want after this season, DUDE.

When put that way, I am almost glad that Dusty was kept around this entire season so that he can suffer this illustrious mark.

(ok Im not glad)

I hope you mean 2004. 2003 was great, sure it ended in a crappy way, but the journey was great. '04 though was just depressing, all that talent only to have the Astros pull it off with the Beltran trade.

I still get really angry whenever people bring up 2004. Remember when this team was ahead in the WC and merely needed to take down the Reds and Mets, who were at the time basically AAAA teams due to injuries and trades?

Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh. I HATED the way that season ended.

Yeah with Stoney telling us, don't worry folks we are gonna be in the playoffs again. I knew when Diaz and Brenzell jacked us after Prior pitched great we were folding.

In three of the seasons the manager was in his first year, so he kept his job. In the other 6 he lost it.

^^ How many of those did the Cubs have a top 5 payroll?

Actually it doesn't matter for every year listed except 1981 because FA changed the way baseball teams were built. This is the worst Cub team ever if you measure with that in mind

100 losses with a $95 million payroll would be a glorious anti-triumph. Cubs are now at 56-86, need to go 6-14 from here. It will be tough, but they can do it.

"RumDum" is one of my pet names for our manager.

"Harry" is Hendry (insert here a picture of Jeff Daniels' character from "Dumb and Dumber").

I knew I was going to get asked about 2003...

For me, while a great season, the tail end, when we blew the playoffs, thanks to bad managing, was for me more disappointing than 2004, because we "had it in the bag".. At least more in the bag than the last 90+ years.

After Smoltz cuts through us like butter tomorrow wehavegot to be a cinch for 100 losses. Nice work Dusty. You completely dismantled everything good about this club. Don't get me wrong, you had help cough Jim Hendry cough. I guess more of us should haverealized 2003 was it, Dusty did why else would he have severely abused three great young pitchers?

The Cubs will need to finish at least 7-12 over the last 19 games to avoid 100 losses.

After the Atlanta series, the rest of the schedule is:

LA Dodgers (3)

Cincinatti (3)

at Philadelphia (3)

at Cincinatti (4)

Milwaukee (2)

Colorado (3)

I can't see the Cubs winning 7 more games.

There will be no way for Hendry to spin this one in the off-season.

Instead, we'll just get platitudes: "Last year was unacceptable...we know we need to get better...yada, yada, yada".

How great would it be if he just flat out said. Last year was great. We sold a ton of tickets, we sold a lot of bricks, we were always in the news. Jones had 25-30 homers, Juan Pierre led the league in hits, we were able to break in a lot of pitchers at the big league level, and we caught the ball better.

with z not ptiching we will struggle to get 5 wins. if he does pitch he might get 4starts so if he wins 3 the rest of the staff needs to win 3...very,very tough call.

we are a solid 3-18 in our last 21....

if we go 6-35 in our last 41 how can hendry still have a job?

that would have to be the worst quarter season stretch in the history of baseball!
