I was just about to post exactly what Adam did. Note also that Jeff Samardzija caught I think seven passes in his career before Ty was fired. Then he caught seven in the bowl game and the rest was history. Ty also did not bring Darius Walker to Provo for the BYU opener that year that Notre Dame lost. Forced to insert him into the Michigan game because no one else was doing anything, Walker ran for 100 yards in about a quarter and a half. The man is a terrible judge of talent, and even if he brings in good recruits, he will likely bury them on the depth chart in favor of unproductive seniors. (Does that sound familiar?)

Also Ty did not actively pursue Samardzija. Heard about him from the baseball coach, and put him on the team more to help the baseball team get him.

Speaking of unproductive seniors look at Julius Jones and how Ty played him behind Ryan Grant when Jones was obviously the better back. The only wins ND got that year were when JJ touched the ball 20+ times (except one, IIRC).

To get back on track with the thread, does anyone know if ABC will have a HD broadcast of the ND/GT game? I may not be able to make it to the game now due to an unexpected financial crisis.

Wasn't the guy that was supposed to be Notre Dame's #1 receiver last year injured for the whole year and that's the reason Samardzija was the starter? If so, who knows what would have happened last year with Samardzija at WR if the guy wasn't hurt.

I can't wait for the EIU/UofI game. As bas as Illinois is this year and as good as Eastern's supposed to be, it'd be absolutely hilarious if IL's little brother whooped up on them.

Go UW Huskies!

As a Notre Dame fan, I feel very sorry for what is going to happen to that team. Ty already managed to pull in one of the worst recruiting classes in the history of the BCS Big Six conferences after a 2-win season. It could be a long time for Husky fans till they're back.

What?? Where do you get this from? Rivals has UW 2006 recruiting class at 35. For a 2 win season thats pretty damn good. Do you remember reading the board here with all the surprise of how well Zook recruited off of that terrible season, well his recruiting class was better but not by much. Ty landed 4 4 star recruits and 3 of those from Washington. One thing he said when he got the job was to 'shore up the state of Washington recruits'. The state of Washington produces some fine talent and it appears he has made some progress in that regard.

You can say what you want to say about Ty but dont forget this. The only reason and i mean only 1 reason that ND is considered a national title contender is because of Brady Quinn. Ty's first major recruit, a national recognized top ten 4 star QB, when he had a full season to fully recruit. It was Ty who lead the charge on moving the prehistoric, Bob Davie option offense to a more West Coast, professional offense. If he hadnt done either of those Chuck Weis wouldnt be where he is right now.

Are you familiar with the way Ty recruited Quinn? I assume not but he did not go after Quinn. In fact Quinn's dream was to attend ND but he was not getting any offers, or even phone calls, while offers from many other major schools were pouring in. After ND get Ndukwe (who went to HS with Quinn) to come to South Bend for a visit, Ndukwe's dad suggested that Ty look at Quinn.

Ty did not land Quinn with his first major year of recruiting. Ndukwe's dad landed Quinn for ND after Ty didn't pay any attention to him for most of his first full season of recruiting. And luckily Quinn was waiting for ND to make an offer, otherwise he would probably be a Buckeye.

Here is what was said in a SI article

Quinn threw for 2,200 yards and 21 touchdowns his junior season, leading the Rocks to the state semifinals and thrusting himself onto the radar of Division I coaches across the nation. By the end of what Robin calls "his world tour" the following summer -- she chauffeured him to football camps at Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, Louisville, South Carolina and Kentucky, among others -- he had fielded dozens of scholarship offers.

It rankled him that none of the offers came from South Bend. Quinn's go-to receiver at Dublin Coffman was Chinedum Ndukwe, whose older brother, Kelechi, graduated from Notre Dame. Several times Quinn had accompanied the Ndukwes to the campus for football games. The school had worked its magic on him, but his affection was unrequited.

That changed in July 2002, when Chinedum and his parents made an unofficial visit to South Bend. (Chinedum would be offered a scholarship and is now a defensive back for the Fighting Irish.) Toward the end of the visit Chinedum's father, Stephen, offered a suggestion to then coach Ty Willingham, "You need to get Brady Quinn up here."

EDIT: Also Ndukwe's father helped ND get Abrarimi (sp?). Just to reiterate, TY did not recruit well. He thought that the fact it was ND would be all he needed. He lost many big recruits, and the only ones he managed to land were the ones who had always wanted to go to ND.

For another example of Ty's excellent recruiting look into Steve Quinn.

Ok, you make a good case that i assumed too much credit for Ty landing BQ. Take that out and leave my 1st paragraph as what my main point was....The comment about Tys class being the worst ever in this history of the Big 6 BCS was flat out ABSURD. In fact i think it was rather impressive for a 2 win team.

Not at all? I have a friend who is a Purdue fan and he has bought a game and watched it on his computer before. Is that possible this week?

Also to anybody that knows, are games available PPV this year individually or do you need to buy a whole weekend package like last year for like $14?

Looks like the week is the cheapest option for ESPN Gameplan online at $22. Sadly, it doesn't start until Saturday. No Thursday games.

McKnight got hurt during the Michigan game. As for as being number one, I think it was supposed to be Stovall anyway, not McKnight (could be wrong). Either way Samardzija would have been the #3 receiver, but I think he made a pretty good case for a move up during the Pitt game, when all 3 receivers were playing.

Notre Dame/Georgia Tech will be in HD. Hope the financial problems aren't too serious.

Thanks. Nothing too serious. My dog got sick, and I would rather spend the money on him than a football game.

OFF TOPIC: 24 hr. vet hospitals are highway robbery. I had to pay $120 up front for them to even see him!

Ok. I knew Samardzija was the #3 WR coming into the season but didn't know if Stovall was #1 or #2. My point was just that Samardzija wouldn't have been as good as they were had McKnight not gotten injured. He would have still been a solid WR and probably would have still had a couple big games though.

If you paid as much to go to school as the average vet, you'd charge that much for your time also.

I didn't say a word about the average vet. It is the 24 hr hospitals that are outragous. Vets prices are reasonable. But to pay $120 to even be able to see the vet, then the vet prices on top of that, it is a bit crazy.

You're paying for that guy to be available at a time he'd rather not be working or when there is a more imediate demand for the services.

Ever needed a plummer on a Sunday? It's the same principle.

It's also why the grave yard shifts at the hospital pay pharmacists, nurses, etc an extra 5-15 bucks more an hour. You have to make it worthwhile for these people to work when they'd rather not.

Yea I get all of that. It just sucks, thats all. Same thing happened when I knocked my teeth out on the 4th of July. I guess it was the manner in which they handled it that made me the most upset. My dog is dying in front of them, and they refuse to even acknowledge something is wrong until I give them money. That was the most upsetting.

Sorry this thread got off topic.

A worse Illinois team beat a better Illinois St. team a few years back by about 50. I took U of I -30 and intend to collect on it.

SEC games are the best to watch, though I love most all the college football games.

If the SEC and Big Ten didnt play at the same time id watch more SEC games. I cant stand to watch the pac 10 on saturday night. The SEC saturday night games are usually pretty damn good so ill catch a couple of those games. Its about time the Big Ten adopted some saturday night football this year.

I am looking forward to seeing what the Big House looks like after the renovation. Its about time they updated it.

There's nothing like a primetime SEC matchup on a Saturday night, Florida/Tennessee, LSU/Auburn, etc. Nothing better. :D

Can't disagree with that. Almost any game in the SEC is better than watching the Pac 10, Big East, or even the Big 12, for that matter.

Big 10 then SEC. I would put those 2 above any other conference, in that order.
