I was reading Liviu Bird's tactics column yesterday since I haven't kept close tabs on the recent friendlies. I got to the lineups and got really, really sad.

-Bradley should never ever be the most-advanced midfielder. Not sure how many times we have to see JK try that before he stops trying to make him into a playmaker.

-Playing Zardes AND Yedlin in the midfield will guarantee that we get overrun in the midfield and will struggle with possession and starting attacks. Yedlin isn't a midfielder no matter how many time JK watches the last 30 minutes of the Portugal game.

-I'm glad JK has half-realized he's an idiot and recalled Besler, but leaving Gonzalez at home in favor of Alvarado is fireable.

-Once you get past Dempsey, Bradley, Altidore and FJ, the rest of our roster is a collection of mismatched parts and misfit toys.

 

If we win, it'll be a 2012-ish performance where Dempsey finally scores against Mexico, against the run of play and we somehow hold on. But we're not going to win this game. I guarantee we won't, because Mexico is not only better than we are right now, but it's a de-facto home game for them in front of 100,000 partisan fans and our coach isn't a very good coach and didn't bring anyone in to camp with the ability to be a difference maker off the bench. He's going to try and ugly this game up and we're going to lose 3-1 or something.

I think Jordan Morris might be really good. He's so active, can finish, can play out wide or centrally and is fast and strong as hell. If he looks this out of place against CONCACAF U-23 level, he's wasted the last two years at Stanford (from a professional athlete standpoint). The Sounders could have really used him this year too. I'm also at the point where I'd be surprised if Miazga/CCV isn't the best central defense pairing we've ever had within 6 years.

I'm going full meatball now. I HOPE we lose tonight. I hope we lose in a fashion similar to the way our YNT just went out there and lost, because that's the only possible way we're going to be rid of Klinsmann and his acolytes throughout the program. He's single-handedly set the NT back about 8 years, and I don't believe that's hyperbole. We're worse in every single way despite having advantages that Arena and Bradley couldn't have dreamed of.

 

I'm sick of the excuses, the cult of personality, the "i found some rando german 3BL guy who I'm going to bring into camp" nonsense player development. I didn't even want Dusty Baker fired as badly as I want JK fired, because JK is ruining one of my favorite pastimes and is just the WORST.

Yeah that helped some. Still pissed though. Wouldn't be surprised to see today end with a 1-3 record. And I would take the Olympic win over the Texas one right now.
