Paul Scholes just picked up his second yellow card in just the 34th minute. Both cards were bookable offenses as they were late, clumsy challenges on his part. Should be interesting to see what Roma can do now.

If I were a GK, the last thing I'd want is for the ball to be loose near my groin while I'm on the ground and with my legs open. That could've been painful...

Roma goes up 1-0 courtesy of Taddei with a deflection off of Man U's Heinze.

I have to say, I'm really liking Roma's attacking style. They're just relentless when the get the ball into the attacking zone and they don't let the opposing defense set up.

Also, Valencia is up 1-0 on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Wow. Great run by Ronaldo to set up the equalizer for Man U. He beat a couple defenders, passed it up to Solskjaer who made a great cross to Rooney who made sure he didn't miss. Huge goal for Man U down a man on the road and it has to be demoralizing for Roma.

In the other game Didier Drogba scored for Chelsea to tie the game. That guy is absolutely amazing. Every time Chelsea needs a big goal, this guy comes through for them. I almost expect him to score at this point.

Roma regain the lead. It looked like Van der Sar should have punched the ball away better.

He did get it kind of awkwardly, but to his defense, there were no white shirts anywhere to be seen.

Yeah, and he was unlucky in that it went right to Vucinic.

EDIT: Cristiano Ronaldo amazes me every time I see him play. The guy is so good when he has the ball at his foot. If only he didn't have a penchant for diving.

Man U supporters have to stay in their seats for 90 minutes after the game ends. They didn't say if that was related to the brawl that took place during the half where it sounded like they got the crap beaten out of them, but that has to suck.

There was a brawl at halftime?

They mentioned a "fracas" right before the teams went back out onto the pitch. They didn't want to say much about it, but they did mention it and were sorry it happened.

This has to be considered somewhat of a disappointment for Roma based on what happened during the game. Scholes gets sent of in the 34th minute and you only win by one and give up an away goal when up a man. Meanwhile, Man U should be content with what happened today in getting that crucial away goal. Yes, they still lost the match but with Scholes going out, they couldn't have realistically expected to do much better than that.

I suddenly have a new found respect for Eric Wynalda :-)

Jim Rome can suck my d---! And he should be very afraid, because I'm the kind of guy, if I get too many drinks in me, I will club his a--. I've been on with Jim Rome, and I said, "Let me get this straight, you're more impressed with water polo???"

I always liked him, just sometimes a little annoying as a commentator. I always figured he would say something like this about Mexico first.

That's hilarious.

BTW, Roma was relentless, but going into Old Trafford only up 2-1 on aggregate isn't all that comfy. I'd bet Man U go through. Scholes is stupid for both of those fouls.

Yeah. I really liked the Roma attack. After Scholes stupidly got the red, there was no reason Roma shouldn't have won by 2 or 3 goals. My money would be on Man U also.

What an idiot. Nothing screams tool more than saying you can kick someone's ass on a blog.

People need to realize that when people attack Rome, he just ends up being more beloved by his fans while the attacker looks like a jackass. Plus this just confirms Rome's stereotype that soccer players/fans are hoodlums and embarassments.

PS, I love Wynalda, but this was dumb.

AP[/url]"]ROME -- Two Manchester United fans stabbed during clashes before a Champions League match with AS Roma remained hospitalized Thursday.

Rome prefect Achille Serra said the fans were stabbed in either the groin or backside during clashes with Roma supporters Wednesday. He also said at least three of the 18 fans reported injured were Italian.

Serra said clashes inside the stadium lasted no longer than two minutes.

I didn't think Rome had real fans. Statboy is worth more to ESPN. It shows a lot that ESPN doesn't even care about the incident. Rome has a Geraldo type public beating coming his way in the future.

This isn't the first time Wynalda has said something to Rome, I don't think he would have a problem saying in front of him.

Yeah, the only reason I heard about it was ESPNNews submitted Wynalda's apology.

I agree, I'm just saying it comes off lame on a blog.

It sounded like he was drunk and pissed and was just talking out loud :-).

Here is another report.

Trouble began inside the stadium after Roma took the lead just before halftime when rival fans traded insults and threw objects from one section of the ground to the other.

Television pictures showed Italian police launching themselves at United supporters with batons, leaving several of them bleeding heavily from head wounds.

One policeman was shown raining blows on a supporter who lay motionless on the ground.

Sounds like the Italians are blaming the English and vice versa.
