Are Bayern serious right now? What a joke.

Pep is a bitch. Landon played ten minutes and got the MVP. LOL. This game was an awesome joke. Caleb Porter should've flipped him off. That exchange totally makes me appreciate Mourinho's antics vs Barca at Inter and Real.

Zlatan was right, man. Pep is a punkass.

That said playing Johnson and Alonso together in a friendly is like taking two untrained pit bulls to a puppy park.

What did Pep do? Wasn't paying attention to him.

He gave Porter the Mutombo finger wag when Porter approached to shake his hand after the game. Then the entire Bayern coaching staff demonstrably shunned Porter too.

Then Porter followed him around the field like a beaten dog and he never acknowledged him. Rushed his players off too. Two clumsy but not dangerous tackles. That's it.

Porter still has some developing to do. Arena, Bradley, Kreis...they'd have told Pep what to do with that finger.

Pep is such a colossal [expletive]. His behavior encapsulates perfectly why I hated Barca when he was there. What a [expletive] douche.

@sunilgulati 8h

All good with Pep Guardiola and Caleb Porter. With them for nice handshake outside the locker room after the game. #MLSAllStar

Landon Donovan is retiring at the end of this MLS season.

Seems fitting that as we move into the 4th stage of US Soccer's growth, the player that singularly defined the third stage retires.

I'll miss him. Great, great player.

Obviously this isn't the end all be all, but Landon's offensive statistical production is so far superior to any one player for the national team, it's ridiculous. His health, consistency and versatility has been incredible.

Game was pretty fun.

Portland crowd was 50/50. They were into the game and cheering, and overall the atmosphere was good. But the booing of Clint was ridiculous. There were also a decent amount of boos for Landon when he came on as well. At least they cheered Landon when he left, though I have to think that's only because he scored. Julian Green got the biggest ovation when he came on, including a resounding "USA" chant. And Henry got a bigger ovation when he left than when Donovan came on.

For someone who doesn't pay attention to MLS much at all, is this how it is across the board? Because I can't fathom booing Donovan or Dempsey at all. Like if this was the exact same situation in baseball, I wouldn't boo a Cardinal under the same circumstances. Playing 10 years for the country I root for trumps playing one year for my club team's rival.

Side note, there were four drunk idiots next to us who referred to Yedlin as "Yeldin" a couple times and weren't 100% sure who Dempsey was (then booed him and yelled for him to go eff himself). One was wearing a USMNT jersey also. One of them was about to pass out after about 15 minutes and was sitting down even though the rest of the section was standing. Him and his friends left after about 30 minutes and never came back.

The PTFC fans were booing Yedlin and Martins, too. I'm sure its just the rivalry thing. Clint and Yedlin were laughing about it.

Portland and Seattle are the only MLS markets where club trumps country across the board. Less so in Seattle. A lot less so. Maybe because of Deuce, Evans and Yedlin. Maybe because Seattle has less of an insular, inferiority complex about their soccer team and their fandom. Portland has a lot of hipster bro fans who are PT! FC! fans more than they are US fans, MLS fans or even soccer fans. I'm way less impressed with them than they are with themselves. The Henry thing was handled well by Thierry and his people. He's been basically hinting that he's retiring and there's been a groundswell of people outside of NY/NJ going out of their way to deservedly celebrate him and it kind of peaked in that game.

I'll confess to not watching a ton of Crew games, but the MLS community has been drooling over Wil Trapp for a long time now. Fyi, this is a 21 year old.

@mixedknuts did his Opta radar today.

For comparison here are Beckerman and Alonso, widely considered the two best D mids in the league:

This kid might be Michael Bradley Jr. Might be better. Similar roles - deep lying playmaker/defensive mid. I'd love to see how they compare when Bradley has a bigger MLS sample size. He's already been a club captain while Parkhurst was in National Team camp and is their permanent vice-captain. When he gets the quicker decision making and better positioning that comes with experience, this dude is going to be a monster. Yet another Caleb Porter U of Akron product. I think it's time to get him in a Senior MNT camp.

Yedlin to Spurs is done. $3,500,000.

Nervous. Spurs just bargain shops. They don't necessarily buy with a plan other than to get value and see what sticks.

BUT. Pochettino developed some hellacious wing backs/play at Southhampton.

Emerson Hyndman drawing raves for his Fulham debut. Lots of young talent in the 18-22 range coming through. Olympics could be a thing.
