The Rangers and Angels just boiled over and had an on-field brawl. Kennedy charged the mound after getting hit by a relief pitcher, and Mark DeRosa came in to tackle him after the pitcher got in a few decent shots. Benches and bullpens cleared, and several smaller fights broke out around. After everything calmed down, players are still threatening the other team from the dugouts. Not a spectacular fight, but it was one of the better ones of recent memory.

thought it was going to be about this.

The Rangers-Angels fight wasn't nearly that awesome. Number 48 in the clip is a big boy, it took 4-5 guys just to slow him down. I guess that's Indy ball at its finest.

A lot of this stemmed from yesterday. Yesterday, in the 4th inning, Padilla (he's sure making a reputation for himself this season) buzzed Vlad and then beaned Rivera after a Vlad homered. Padilla and Showalter were ejected.

In the 8th, Vlad was buzzed again, by Littleton and wasn't ejected, which upset the Angels greatly.

There was some thought that the Angels might retaliate today when there were no warnings, specifically from Adam Kennedy who said they might do something in today's game.

It's been going on longer than that, Eaton got thrown out in the first inning last week in Anaheim for throwing behind Juan Rivera after giving up a 3-run homer.

True enough, it's actually gone back to last year.

The Angels also had a brawl with the A's earlier this season. Only the Mariners left...

Personally, I like basebrawls. If MLB really wanted to end this they'd implement a rule similar to the NBA rule regarding those who come off the bench.

This brawl wasn't all that good. The best brawl I saw on tv was between the Braves and Padres in 1984.

I like the brawl where the clever hitter decided to kick out the catcher first before charging the mound.

Of course then there is the one where you know who got a very clear hit on you also know who

Robin Ventura serving as a punching bag for Nolan Ryan comes to mind when I think of brawls/charging the mound.

Izzy Alcantara!

I was at a Durham Bulls game with Izzy in the outfield for the opposing team. We taunted him by chanting "Pele!" for the entire game.

it all boils to all of them realizing they failed to bury the A's when they had the chance.

How do the A's keep winning ? I mean, they are so young and inexperienced, they don't play small ball, and they have guys on pitch counts. It makes no sense.

Great pitching in a terrible division will do that for you. That's all they have-their offense is only marginally better then ours for the year.

I think that's about right. That is a terrible division to hit in too so the pitching/hitting gets a little skewed. The A's have almost caught the Yankees now though and could end up hosting a first round series. They have been fairly dominant in recent weeks though. They've also won 15 straight games against Seattle.

It also helps to be in the only 4 team division in baseball, none of whose teams are particularly dominant.
