I like the gray roads -- it's cool that it just says Chicago on the front.

For people who are interested in Cubs uniform trivia, this Uni Watch article would be of interest.

Batting helmets used to be made by American Baseball Cap Inc. (which is why they used to have the "ABC" logo on the back). But ABC was acquired a few years ago by Rawlings, which now makes all the MLB helmets, so Uni Watch contacted Rawlings marketing manager Dan Cullinane to get the full scoop.

"The Cubs do use a different helmet logo than the other teams," he confirmed, much to Uni Watch's amazement. "It's a white felt adhesive appliqué with an embroidered red 'C' inside the felt. I'm not sure of the history, since we only bought ABC a couple of years ago, but I believe that initially all the team logos were made out of felt. But every other team has switched to a decal."

Fair enough. In retrospect, maybe it's not so surprising that the Cubs would have a unique helmet logo. They're also the only MLB team to include an "®" trademark symbol on their jersey insignia (a topic Uni Watch addressed a few years back), as well as the only club to wear their team logo on their pants. Heterodoxy, thy name is Cubbies!

The Cubs stuck with the felt logos after switching to the new Cool-Flow batting helmets.

First: After the past couple of yrs, the Cub players haven't earned the right for their names to be put back on the jersey. I like the nameless jersey, because you can't necessarily call one player out, you have to call out the whole team. Leave the names off the jersey. And take the pinstripes off.

Second: I absolutely love the blue jersey.

You can't call out one player because his name isn't on the back? Do you think the announcers will be confused when the SS makes an error but can't tell if it's Zambrano, Izturis or Lee?

What I meant was....players could NO LONGER play for the name on the back of the jersey, but instead play for the name on the front of the player.

I may not been as clear with my thoughts, but you definately didn't understand what I was trying to say, and I hope I made it clear.

If players are going to play for themselves and not for the team, they will do so regardless of whether their name is on the back. The same is also true of selfless players.

So the removal of the name from the back will turn a selfish player into a team player? I don't follow your logic and suspect that you are completely wrong on this issue.

(1) Keep the names off.

(2) Find every last alternate jersey in existance and start the world's biggest polyester-fueled bonfire. The blues look ridiculous.

Sorry but some people like the alternatives. I think the pinstripes look ugly IMO. Plus Zambrano likes the dark blue shirts and he is awesome. Trust me Zambrano knows what he's talking about. Bow to the blue!

Never...they are hideous.

Put me on the list of people who absolutely despises the blue jerseys. They look like a drunken softball teams uniforms...

As a drunken softball player, I would never wear a uniform like that.

true drunken softball players don't wear uniforms . . . they wear ragged old tshirts.

Or they pay for a team shirt on opening day, play all season with ragged t-shirts and receive the team shirt at the first playoff game.

I think the Mets should wear Cubs' uni's for the rest of the year so I can fantasize while being forced to watch them against my will.

Ok, more on topic I like the uni's without the names. I remember being annoyed when they switched over to uni's with the names, happy when they took them off, and annoyed again.

I'm sure its the market thats dictating this. Why would I need a John Mabry jersey when I already have a blue-pinstriped jersey with a "17" on it. Ok, maybe "8" is more accurate for this story.

I always liked the blues. For awhile I know the team wore blues everytime Lieber pitched home or away because he claimed he could see the plate better.

I have proof that all the blue-lovers are also responsible for the resurgance of the wave at Wrigley.

I believe this is statistically provable and entirely accurate.

*Drunkenly waves a sheet of paper*

I HAVE NAMES!!!

BTW, as mentioned on the broadcast yesterday, due to the quick call-up, O'Malley was missing his apostrophe on his road uniform.

The equipment manager needs to remember to pack the apostrophes. What was he thinking?

That was a weird play...stupid stadium sucks. I hate MMP.

I also hate the blue unis...they should be banned.

Yes ... but the backward somersault was cool nonetheless.

So was the part when the line drive his hit glove and he kept trying to tell them that. He looked terrified that they'd try to take him out of the game. 8-)

I may be a stickler to baseball fashion, but the nameless blue home jerseys are an eyesore. Regardless of the opinion that home fans should know players by number, ugly is ugly.
