I may have missed the thread somewhere but Chicagosports.com is reporting Prior to DL for three weeks. Likely will miss the rest of the season.

Didn't see who was brought up though.

News: The Cubs placed Mark Prior on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with shoulder tendinitis, a move that could mean an end to the right-hander's season. The latest DL trip comes after he allowed five earned runs in three innings in an 8-6 loss to Milwaukee on Thursday. Prior didn't feel anything wrong with the shoulder, but a loss in velocity in the third inning led the team to send him back to Chicago for an MRI on Friday, which showed rotator cuff tendinitis. "I'm more disappointed for him," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said. "It's been a tough couple of years here, on and off the DL. He's not very happy about it."

I really wish I remembered who it was that had the phrase

"Mark Prior is NOT injury prone"

in his signature. Looks a little foolish now. Prior is a brittle, brittle, boy.

Prior has probably been injured since last year.

I don't think he's brittle. He's been misused, of that I'm sure.

At the same time Hendry and Co. have done nothing to quell the rumors that he's soft.

Soft.

Soft in the sense that he's tried to pitch through injuries for the better part of two seasons.

Some of the comments on this thread are laughable and childish.

? and what is calling people out without having the guts to call them out by name?

It's called obeying the rules. "attack the arguement, not the poster". . Oldcubsfan is staying within the rules.

BTW Prior is a wuss.

Good riddance

So our rotation is:

Zambrano

Hill

Marshall

Guzman

Marmol

Marshall's on the DL and they said during the game that Mateo would "probably" take Prior's start on Tuesday. Question now is... who will take Guzman's turn next time through? ;)

It's a lot more interesting when you contribute to discussions instead of trying to insult other posters. I hope you'll say what you mean at some point.

I didn't realize the way to get around that rule was to generally attack the board....hmmmm I should use that. :o

I wouldn't suggest it as a long-term strategy.

When it comes to Prior being on the DL, it's not like there's a renegade point of view on this. Many people think he's a wimp; he was on 'roids; he's injured and has been injured for a while; you name it. It's silly to be all mysterious and self-important about opinions on this, regardless of what they are.

It is just sad to see this happen to a guy that could have been such a big Super Star in Chicago. He could have been great for the city. Now it looks like he is just going to drift into the dark. When you dont even get mentioned when you go to the DL on espn besides for making a joke out of you, it can't be a good thing. I do feel bad for this guy I thought he was going to be around for a long time and have an outstanding career, but it looks like one thing has lead to another and he is either going to come back and be an okay pitcher prob. not with the Cubs or he will just disapear.

How dare you say the kids should pitch then rip them for pitching like this.

:P ok that's enough. Let's not prevoke him. :)

If you want to blame Dusty and Roth for this, you can, and you may have a point. But I don't think it can be ignored that this guy is looking dinged up in general and has had several unexplained recurring maladies. Looks like a pattern. Lets just hope its not "Wood Redux".

Juan Mateo is scheduled to take Prior's spot in the rotation, making his second career start Tuesday against Houston's Roger Clemens and giving the Cubs four rookies in the rotation.

All the while pitching under a turd-ass manager who assumes any pitcher, especially a young pitcher coming off an injury, is still more than capable of throwing a ton of pitches a start.

I still think Mark Prior is going to become something, maybe (hopefully not) after the Cubs give up on him. If they do give up on him in typical Cubs fashion it will be now, when his value is at an all time low. Still, I think if he went to a team like Minnesota or Oakland he would thrive under a team willing to take care of him and making SURE he's 100% before sending him out there.

Think about it, there was talk all winter of Prior and Wood working out and blah blah blah, and weeks before ST Prior comes down with a major stomach virus. Those things can really sap a guys strength and really suck the life out of you, I have a friend recovering from one he caught all the way back in early March, he went from a kid who could clean his body weight to barely being able to do the bar.

Prior has been a good pitcher for us when he HAS pitched, the exception being this year. But considering what he's gone through I'm willing to give him one or two more passes, maybe because its Mark Prior and he's still just 25. Still, after what he did for us in 2003 and after watching him try his ass off to repeat that the past couple years only to have line drives hit at him and crap, I think I'd rather not give up on him just yet.

Do you give him a free pass again next year if he struggles in spring training or do you act like any other player, either sit him down in the pen, or (not sure if they can), designate him into the minors. I know that may be a stretch but he had two okay outtings this year. If you want the Cubs to win next year you can't have that on the team.

Who cares how he does in spring training? Lots of pitchers struggle there and come out gangbusters during the regular season.

The Cubs are probably not going to win next season without a good, healthy Prior (I don't have faith in Hendry having the ability to improve the team enough that Prior would be a 4-5 starter). Four good (including one great) seasons out of five deserves leeway in the form of quite a few regular season starts before. Of course, I think the point is moot if he's healthy next season - it sure seemed like he's been pitching hurt this season, hence the struggles (a la Prior in July & August of '04).

Funny, in January we were supposed to have six veterans for five spots.
