Rockies announcers are saying it's not Baker's fault. He's not the one on the field making the plays, blah blah blah.

I always HATE that argument. If it's up to the players, why are we paying him $4 million.

Now they're blaming injuries.

Perhaps Wood shouldn't have thrown 1,434,488,199 pitches in 2003?

They say if the Cubs don't bring him back, he'll have no trouble finding work.

Probably true, as baseball organizations are generally stupid.

Touchdown Bears!

Brian Griese to Gabe Reid.

17-7.

I amend my earlier 49er prediction, the Bears will once again be doing the Super Bowl Shuffle.

Hey hey, all these Bears posts are making the Cubs thread bigger, giving people the incorrect impression that this game is interesting.

Another fun fact: the Cubs are tied with the lead league with 30 sac bunts with runners in scoring position.

What?

I bet they lead both leagues in sac bunts with RISP and two outs in the ninth.

I know we have at least one attempt, courtesy of Neifi.

Yes, and Hendry should have been fired on the spot for not releasing Neifi or firing Dusty (not sure who deserves the blame) after that abomination.

That was genius. They weren't expecting it nor were the Cubs(other than Neifi), the fans and anyone that knows anything about baseball for that matter.

Shame on those ignoring the Cubs while they still reside in the wild card hunt.

Pat and Ron..Ron talking about some ice cream he had seen..

Pat: So you saw the kids enjoying it then?

Ron: No, it was some grownups, and they had a lot-a big amount, 3 layers I think

Pat: What about the ice cream?

:D

I believe Seattle scored 9 runs in the 9th inning against Boston earlier this year - May 24, IIRC.

We can still win this game, and we can still win the wild card.

and so are knee jerk reactions!

He needs to earn my love by consistently not stinking like hot garbage.

So what do you want to do with Hill then? The only way he's going to get better is if he's pitching every 5th day in the big leagues.

I find it funny how people criticize some of our only players who make the game interesting to watch. Seriously, what else do you want to do right now? Would you rather find some veteran off the scrap heap to win those all important 2 extra games, or would you want the younger pitchers to develop in a season that doesn't mean anything?

Hill/Marshall/Marmol and now Guzman are the only reasons I'm watching this crappy team right now. It's frustrating that Hill had control problems today, but oh well. Every game is meaningless right now, so why not have the kids pitch every 5th day and learn on the job?

I couldn't agree with you more. I always haven't been the biggest Hill backer but the past 2-3 starts I can see a upside. Coors field is a tough park to pitch in if you rely on breaking pitches as Hill does. I expected a bit of a set back tonight, so I'm not surprised by this. I'm more interested to see how he pitches his next start.
