he is on WGN radio right now and he should literally have a doctor stich his lips to the ass of Brandon Webb. He isint saying it but he thinks that Webb is a FAR superior pitcher to Zambrano.

Every stat that Kap brings up that Zambrano has a advantage in, he says its not important but whatever stat webb has in his advantage, its Gospel truth that he is better

Batting Average against isint important in judging a pitcher

thom brennaman is about as "anti-cubs" as you can get. if zambrano figured out the cure for aids during the rain delay, brennaman would've talked it down like it was no big deal. i think he's still irked that he didn't stick around too long on WGN. anyone know the details behind him leaving?

He was on WGN for 6 years. I thought that he just left for Arizona because it was a good opportunity with a new team. I believed the parting was amicable. Maybe it wasn't.

But, he does like to slip in snide remarks against the Cubs and Cub fans even when they don't play the Cubs. He gets a lot of chances considering Grace refers to his playing days in Chicago.

As I recall, the Trib wanted to anoint Thom as next in line to replace Harry, if only he'd commit to do Cub games exclusively. Sounds good, huh? Well, Thommy boy wanted to keep his gig with FOX doing D-list NFL games, so all that was torched.

He made the call, but for some reason he's been bitter ever since.

I am not a fan of Brennamen. Mostly because I think he is too in love with his own voice. But he does have somewhat of a point about Brandon Webb. Webb has a better ERA by half a run, a better WHIP, walks fewer batters, and has a significantly better K/BB ratio even though he does strike out fewer people.

I have no problem with him advocating for Webb as Cy Young thus far. But, a week and a half ago he said that the only competition for the Cy Young would be Glavine and Arroyo.

Yeah he is, remember in the '03 NLCS when himself, Lyons, and Leiter were Pro-Marlins. I also remember him saying somehting along the lines that A.J. Burnett had more electric stuff than Prior and Wood when healthy. When he said that I knew he was anti-Cubs.

was it brenneman or levin that harry didn't like?

I think it was Lewin.

Yeah, it was Lewin because he got the job and Harry wanted Chip to take the job. But, if I recall correctly it was offered to Chip and he turned it down. It was then offered to Lewin and Harry had it out for Lewin. Steve Stone is quick to say how misguided Harry was in this situation.

The whole thing is detailed in Steve Stone's book, Where's Harry?

iirc, Harry drove Lewin, Brenneman, and Hamilton out of town.
I don't think Harry drove Brenneman out. It was as mentioned earlier in the thread. Brenneman wanted to televise games nationally for Fox as well as the Cubs on WGN, and the Cubs wanted him to commit himself exclusively to them. As far as Hamilton is concerned, although he has taken every opportunity to bash Harry, I think his real gripe was with WGN. He joined WGN as #2 television announcer under Jack Brickhouse with the understanding that he'd take over as #1 play-by-play guy when Brickhouse retired. Then that fell through when the Trib bought the Cubs and brought Harry in instead. Hamilton has been bitter about that ever since.

I bet Zambrano would win a fight between the 2

With who; Webb or Thom?

both at the same time.

Zambrano and Farnsworth both made me a smile a LOT last night during that 2003 montage during the rain delay.

Me too. It was fun watching a team that enjoyed playing the game and was excited to be on the field. You even had the Aramis/Simon/Lofton dance sequence!

I just wish WGN was able to show the entire thing. We only got about midway through the season. Ah, memories.

Hey cl, i've been strying to track down the wild cubs/rockies ending from 2001 that you posted on youtube (taken off).... can u gimme a download link to it?... or email it to me?.... (check your PMs)

i have the segment in an .mp4 format (viewable in quicktime, itunes and your video ipod). i can send it to your email address if you want. if you have gmail, that would be better since it can handle large attachments (i believe the file is 25-35 MB). let me know...i'll be more than happy to send it to anyone who wants it.

EDIT: what i'll do is this...when i get home tonight, i'll upload it to my girlfriend's website and post the link here for anyone who wants it. i'll keep it there for a week so it gives everyone who wants it enough time to download it. sound good?

p.s. one of these days, i'll get around to converting maddux's 300th win, the 2003 nl central clincher, game 163 from '98 and the '84 nl east clincher to .mp4 for everyone.

p.p.s. did anyone ever find out where one could purchase the sandberg game?

gmail only allows 10 MB attachments. What you could do is zip it, and if the zip file is under250 MB, upload it thru megaupload.com, and then give people the link.

Do you, or anyone else, have the Farnsworth-Wilson fight video? I can't find it but would LOVE to have it.

Too bad Webb's season is probably over.
No it isn't. He's only expected to miss a start.

If the D-Backs said one start, I believe it. If the Cubs said one start, then his career is over
