I sniggered.

Iowa up 8-0 in the bottom of the 4th.

After 4, Mesa and Tempe are scoreless. Perez and Parker are the only 2 with hits, Rosario with a walk. Rundle is 0 for 2, Andersen 0 for 1, but neither has struck out yet.

Boise is up 7-2 going to the bottom of the 6th.

Are the stats on MiLB.com right for Rafael Dolls?

If so, he's pulling off one unique combination of performances. 14IP, 23K, 13BB, 19H. It's really unusual to see someone that untouchable also be that hittable. Weird. He must come to the point where he just lays it in to throw a strike when he's behind the hitters sometimes.

It is correct, although most of his strikeouts have come in his last two or three performances, during which time he's been less hittable.

Do you have age/height/weight info on him?

Dolis is a positional player convert, I believe he used to be an infielder. He's 6'3, 180 lbs. He might have come from the Orioles organization.

Here is his breakdown of games this season. 12 of his Ks have come in the last 2 games (6 innings), during which time, he's given up 3 hits and only 2 walks.

I *think* he's 19 or 20 but have not been able to find anything concrete on him.

Thanks. He certainly looks like he has a live arm. And at that height/weight, he should have some projection remaining. It'll be interesting to see if the Cubs can make something of him or Ceda over the next few years.

Cool! I'm interested in some players on the rookie and short season teams again. It's been a little while.

Marco Carillo, Jake Renshaw, Robert Hernandez, Marwin Gonzlaez, Carlos Perez, Drew Rundle and Cliff Andersen also seem intriguing to me (down in Mesa).

By the way, Iowa is now up 9-1 thanks ot a 5th inning RBI double by Pie. Felix is now 3 for 3 with a walk, single, double and homer. Just needs a triple for the cycle...

Boise leads Salem-Keizler 11-2 going to the bottom of the 8th. Colvin is now 0 for 2 with 3 walks. Mario Mercedes is 4 for 5.

Mesa is down 2-1. Taylor Parker gave up the runs in the 5th, Andersen scored in the bottom of the 5th for Mesa.

And Boise's up 11-2. And Colvin has taken his third walk of the game. :D

Rafael Dolis is 18, 1/10/88, RHP, 6'3". He played infield last season for DSL, hitting .259, 4th on the team with 1 HR, 20 errors, and by Cub DSL standards a respectable .322 OBP.

He had a couple of frightenngly bad appearances earlier, but as Cal said his last two games have had dominant K/BB's. Even so, he had like 11 K/8 IP even before the good ones.

He's really turned it around these last two game, and at 6'3" and only 18, I've gotta figure he's got something going. They could easily have kept him at infield (they have plenty of horrible infielders on the DSL squad, and his numbers for a 17-year-old weren't too bad, actually), or kept him in DSL for his first year pitching.

So I agree, he's interesting.

And Tim, I agree completely, this is the first year in a while that the Rookie Team has had some interesting stuff, and particularly Latin kids.

Does anybody have a height-weight on Marco Carrillo? He's Mexican and 19, but he was good in DSL last year and while he doesn't have the knockout K's, his control and results have been excellent.

Robert Hernandez (?) at 17 has also been very interesting.

Since he's a catcher, Mercedes looks interesting. 1 BB, 3 Ks though, lots of contact...

Actually, I've been following Mercedes for a while. I forgot about him for the moment, though.

I loved when Mario Mercedes and Alberto Albequerque were the two most interesting players on the DSL team. Just for the names, if nothing else.

A lot to be pleased about this evening.

1. 4 more Harvey hits...

2. A Pie bomb...

3. A Patterson bomb...

4. Colvin gets on base more and more...

5. Atkins continues to quietly impress...

6. Ryu is solid again...

and

7. Hill had a great night for the Cubs...

8. Murton showed power tonight....

...maybe things are looking up!

Stuff on Dolis

[Dolis] was a shortstop that we converted to pitcher in January of this year. He throws up to 94, 95 miles per hour. He's got a great arm with a good feel and is a guy that can throw real hard.

Click me

Fleita likes the swing of 17 y/o Marwin Gonzalez. He's hitting .190/.264/.266.

Also Robert Hernandez is 17 and should develop into a hard thrower. He's got a sub 2 ERA, but lack of Ks.

Iowa won 9-3. Ryu got the win as he went 7, allowing 8 hits, 2 ER's, 2 BB's, and struck out 6. Emanuel pitched the 8th and gave up 3 hits and a run. Rapada pitched a 1-2-3 9th. Felix had a nice night going 3/4 with a single, a double, and a homer. He had 3 RBI's, a walk, and 2 runs scored. Ojeda had a 3-run homer in the 1st. Montanez and Reyes each had 2 hits with Reyes adding an RBI. Fontenot and Buck Coats were each 1/5 with Fontenot adding an RBI and Coats getting a stolen base. Deardorff was 1/4 with a BB. Only opsition player to not get a hit for Iowa tonight was Micah, who went 0/5 with a run scored.

Nashville lost 1 of 2 games in their doubleheader today. Iowa is now 2.5 out of first.

Mesa down 3-2 in the 10th.

That will never beat my favorite pitching line, a combination of last year and this year, from former #10 pick overall Joe Torres:

3-14, 91.1 IP, 101 H, 102 ER, 6 HR, 150 BB, 77 K, 18 WP

10.05 ERA

2.75 WHIP

14.78 BB per 9 IP

Truly spectacular
