I figured this thread was in order given the fact that the trade deadline is coming up at 4 PM. There's going to be a flood of threads on everything from crazy rumors to the more realistic. There can be some centralized discussion here instead of 200 discussions spanning over 30 different threads.

The questions remain:

Who will be a Cub when all is said and done?

Where's Soriano going to end up?

Will guys like Jason Schmidt and Barry Zito be on the move?

Can the Red Sox pull off a multi-team deal in their quest to acquire a starting pitcher?

Are teams like the Reds, Yankees, and Rangers done dealing?

What surprise trades will happen?

Is there any hope for Hendry acquiring some one like Andy LaRoche or George Kottaras in exchange for Maddux?

All this and more will be answered after the 4 PM deadline!

Stay tuned. :D

WOW...posters on this board really think the Cubs have a lot of talent to trade judging by what they think we should get for guys like Maddux, Walker, Nevin etc...

And trading Aramis creates a much bigger hole than it fills.

There is going to be a lot of unhappy posters here at 3:00 pm today.

Judging by the trades made the last few days, it seems like a buyers market, and we won't end up getting as much as we thought. But then again, things can change dramatically over the last few hours as teams get desperate

As stated in the mulitple aramis threads, there will be a potential hole at 3B whether we trade him today or not. He is going to opt out of his contract, and he will be a free agent at the end of this season...no matter what happens today.

That doesn't mean he won't be a Cub.

I've been an unhappy Cubs poster pretty much all season long, so to be honest, I don't think there's going to be much that could occur today to change that.

I really don't think Hendry will let him walk as long as he doesn't demand anything completely ridiculous or unless he just flat out doesn't want to play for the Cubs and would even take less money to get away. I don't think either one of those things will happen. This teams offense has been dreadful for awhile now and it would be foolish to trade a hitter of Aramis caliber. We could use more like him. Not less.

I think he will give the Cubs a chance to re-negotiate a deal though. No reason for him NOT to test the waters to get more money/years. I think if the Cubs don't trade him, it's a pretty good indication that they think they can re-negotiate an extension.

I'd like to see the White Sox go after Murton.......Cintron for Murton? eh????

Yeah I'm not going to watch him turn into a .315/.400/.500/.900 player with you guys

As close as we are to the deadline, I doubt we can make more than one trade, if we make one at all.

How about Josh Fields for Murton and McClain, and then we trade ARam for Aybar and Santana. Then we will resign ARam during the offseason and move Fields to LF.

How you like dem apples?

Hendry, for better or for worse, has shown an ability to make deals right at the deadline. The Lawton deal wasn't announced until the top of the hour, and the Nomar deal didn't become public knowledge until at least 10-15 minutes after the deadline.

Is there any reason to keep Nevin, Walker, and anyone else that's not in Hendry's plans for next year? JH should certainly be able to send them and cash to some contender's bench for a low-A garbage prospect..... at least free up the roster space for other guys in the organization to get a chance to show what they can do for the last 2 months of the year.

I think Nevin at least would have a chance to pass through waivers. Walker probably wouldn't though.

I'd do Fields for Jerome Williams, Matt Murton, and Wuertz

Buster Olney update reported on ESPN Sportsnation Chat: The Red Sox and the Braves have talked about a deal that would send Andruw Jones to Boston for Coco Crisp, Craig Hansen and a prospect. But according to an executive familiar with the discussions, the Braves made a counter offer, asking for Jon Lester to be the third player.

Now that would be an interesting deal.

That would be interesting. I don't think the Red Sox would do it with Lester in there, though.

I think you're right. Boston needs pitching badly and the addition of Jones over Crisp just wouldn't make up for the loss of Lester.

I think Papelbon and Lester are "hands off" from the Red Sox point of view. I wonder who else they might consider adding to the deal from the minors to get Jones though?

Jones would provide a huge bonus to the Sox from an offensive and defensive standpoint though - that's for certain!!
