Ramirez tripled? At home? Did somebody fall down or dive for the ball?

No, it was hit in the far RF corner and it looked like the RFer was playing way over straight-away (I can't watch consistently, I only saw the replay), so even Aramis had time to chug his way into 3rd. :)

Lou Brock is one of them for the AFLAC trivia question.

The other former Cub in the HOF as a Cardinal? Hm...

Hornsby?

Dizzy Dean.

Len thought Hornsby, but apparently he doesn't have a logo on his cap. Ditto Alexander.

Trick question!

At least I can take solace that Len and I share the same thoughts.

Arams hit was down the line

theory on Cubs success v. Cards this and last year - Duncan's philosophy of getting ahead early in the count falls right into the Cubs hitting philosophy's hand.

Cubs seem to have the most success against pitchers who try to get ahead early in the count, so you may be onto something.

Also, the fact that Pujols has sucked against the Cubs so far this season has helped that endeavor greatly.

That is plausible.

It's not just our perception here at NSBB that the Cubs are overly aggressive. According to Baseball Stats Inc, the Cubs led MLB in swinging at the first pitch in 2004 and 2005.

I thought the poster was simply giving his/her observation of why Marmol and Marshall have been more successful than Hill at this point.

I think it's pretty stupid to say you can see in their eyes that they want it, and the reason Hill has struggled is becasue he doesn't want it. Nothing but a bunch of predetermined jibberish. I don't have a problem bringing up some player on the Cubs, unless of course there's intent to stir the pot.

Yeah, I think it's predetermined jibberish. But my point is there are tons of predetermined jibberish on these boards that aren't policed, so why is it some are and some aren't policed?

I responded to his thoughts here, then saw that the thread could easily turn into another Rich Hill debate. I plead guilty to that.

I didn't ask him or anyone else to not post their opinions about Rich Hill on this board. I simply asked that they post further discussions in the existing threads already devoted to debating Hill's merits or lack thereof in Discussions and now also in Transactions.

This is, after all, the game thread and we do try to keep conversations here related to the game. Some people use this thread to follow the game. Rich Hill is not pitching in this game. If you review yesterday's game thread, you will find plenty of opinions expressed on Rich Hill, since Rich Hill did pitch in yesterday's game.

I'm not trying to police anyone's opinion on Rich Hill. I am trying to police this to stay on game-related topics. If you would like to start a thread pertaining to your like or dislike of any player -- past or present Cub or non-Cub -- please feel free to do so in Baseball Discussions.

as does Rolen's defense.

Rolen's throw took Pujols off the bag. Larussa argued that Pujols still touched first before Marmol.

Rolen's throw pulled Pujols off the bag, but just barely.

Rolen threw it high and Pujols had to jump off the bad to get it but ti looked like he landed on the bag right at marmol stepped on it.. it was really close but we got the call

I think the mods did a decent job of explaining their stance on this issue.

But anyway, what the heck just happened to the offense. When was the last 6 run inning.

Marmol hit routine grounder to Rolen, Luna failed to get to second in time to take the throw, so Rolen had to go to first, throw sailed high pulling pujols off the bag momentarily.

Cubs might have caught a break. it was real close.

Who would have thought after the last 2 innings that Marquis would be the one not making it through the 4th? Man, when he blows up, he does it in grand fashion.

Marmol running through the stop sign was among the funniest things I've seen this season.

It was like watching a train wreck.

He probably thought the coach was too drunk to make the call.

Win totals are an awful way to judge a pitcher.
