I do think Hill should be starting for the rest of the year so he gets a chance to get comfortable in the majors. As has been brought up a lot, not all guys have that level of confidence to succeed right away.

So maybe we should go the Earl Weaver/Minnesota Twins route and use him regularly in low-leverage long relief situations for a few months before moving him to the rotation.

At any rate, he has absolutely nothing left to prove in AAA, and I see no benefit to playing him at that level any longer.

What a difference watching Marshall or Marmol pitch then watching Hill. Both of these pitchers want it! You can see it in their eyes. Hill just looks plain scared...

Seriously dude, this is unnecessary. It's obnoxious and troll-like. No one was talking about Hill vs. Marmol and Marshall in here. You brought it up.

Please knock it off.

I don't see the problem here. He was making an observation on the agressiveness and pitching styles of the young guys. And in my opinion he's right.

What I'd suggest is moving any further Rich Hill discussions to the Rich Hill thread in Baseball Discussions since he's actually not pitching in this game. (and I'll try to follow my own advice despite my post above). :)

And there's a perfect example of why Dusty shouldn't be allowed to finish out the year. Instead of seeing Murton we get to see Angel Pagan look like the 2nd coming of Neifi Perez when he bats. The Cubs just don't get it.

My problem is that he has been involved in a number of heated discussions regarding Rich Hill on this board (including one in yesterday's game thread). There's nothing wrong with his opinion, but it's getting to a point where I'm absolutely sick and tired of people stirring the pot just to cause trouble. We've covered Rich Hill's ability/inability to perform as a major leaguer. There is no reason to keep drudging it up again and again to backhandedly bash other posters, prove a point, or just make trouble.

There was absolutely no need to bring Rich Hill into the conversation of Marmol's ability.

As posted, there's no need to discuss Rich Hill further in this game thread.

There are other threads in Discussions for that purpose. Thanks.

You mean dragging stuff up and up again like the many "why Baker should be fired" threads? Or the many "Neifi sucks" threads?

It's one thing to start new discussions about these matters. It's another thing altogether to throw them into a discussion where it has little to no relevance.

Can someone describe what happened for those who can't see the game?

Marmol got the lead runner at third on a sac bunt attempt.

Aramis overthrew Walker at first trying to get a double play.

Jones' throw missed Barrett at the plate (trying to get Marquis), but Marmol had the play backed up.

I think this is clearly a double-standard. It seems as if some people get touchy when "their" guy is criticized but it's open season on guys that some hate. So, when is it relevant to compare a guy? I've already seen where the question of Pagan vs. Murton was brought up. What's the difference between that and Hill vs. Marmol?

Eckstein bunted poorly with men on first and second. Marmol grabbed it and threw the ball to Ramirez in a nice play.

Ramirez tried to get Eckstein at first, but airmailed it over Walker's head (Mabry was charging). Marquis came around to score and the guy backing up Walker made a horrible throw to Barrett, allowing Eck to take second.

Pujols gets an RBI by going the other way to right center. He hit a good pitch that was off the plate - not much Marmol could do about that one.

If Patterson were in center, that double would have been a single, by the way. Pujols took second on Pierre's arm.

Pagan is playing today. Hill is not.

Because Murton should probably be playing today, him playing or not is relevant to today's game. Marmol is pitching today, Hill pitched yesterday and won't pitch again for another 5 days. They aren't competing for the same spot.

Pagan versus Murton was brought up in this thread because Pagan was starting in place of Murton in LF. Marmol was not starting in Rich Hill's place in today's game.

If he wants to start a thread comparing Marshall and Marmol to Hill, he's more than welcome to do so.
