Pujols gets an RBI by going the other way to right center. He hit a good pitch that was off the plate - not much Marmol could do about that one.

If Patterson were in center, that double would have been a single, by the way. Pujols took second on Pierre's arm.

Please no need to bring up Patterson. As was the case earlier, only relevant comparisons are allowed. :P

There's no excuse for Pagan to be playing today. Murton is hitting very well right now and Nevin is, too, and he's hopefully being shopped. With Lee out, having Pagan AND Mabry in there is insanity.

Except that Patterson was traded to bring in Pierre. As TT pointed out, Hill and Marmol aren't competing for the same spot.

I hope Cedeno can get it together quickly.

His line for July before that at-bat- .138/.162/.154-for a .316 OPS-ouch. I just hope he isn't destroying any confidence he has.

They kind of are: next year it will likely be Z, Prior, FA Pitcher, Marshall, and the better of Hill/Marmol. What relevance that has I don't know, but I think they are both competing for the #5 slot.

Patterson was traded because he wasn't going to have success in Chicago. I still think people pick and choose when or when they aren't offended by posts based on if "their" guy is being called out.

I thought the poster was simply giving his/her observation of why Marmol and Marshall have been more successful than Hill at this point.

I think it's pretty stupid to say you can see in their eyes that they want it, and the reason Hill has struggled is becasue he doesn't want it. Nothing but a bunch of predetermined jibberish. I don't have a problem bringing up some player on the Cubs, unless of course there's intent to stir the pot.

For those watching the game: is Marmol anywhere close on most of these pitches? Or is he missing badly?

He and Barrett both look like they aren't sure where each pitch is going to end up. He's getting some movement, though.

Bah, 3-0 Cards but Luna thrown out trying to go for 2nd on a hit to LF.

Lou Brock is one of them for the AFLAC trivia question.

The other former Cub in the HOF as a Cardinal? Hm...

Hornsby?

Dizzy Dean.

Len thought Hornsby, but apparently he doesn't have a logo on his cap. Ditto Alexander.

Trick question!

But it shouldn't be that way. There are intelligent posters here who would disagree with me, but I'd prefer Marmol, Hill, Guzman, etc be used out of the bullpen instead of going down to AAA if they don't make the starting rotation.

As stated earlier, Earl Weaver did it with his young pitchers, and the Twins are a good example for this sort of usage.

The Twins have the best strikeout-to-walk ratio of any team in the past five seasons. Joe Nathan makes $5 million. Juan Rincon makes $700,000. Jesse Crain, Matt Guerrier, J.D. Durbin, Willie Eyre, Dennys Reyes, and Pat Neshek each make $370,000 or less.

Eyre and Howry have done very well this season, but I would've preferred Hendry to use the money elsewhere. Using our own prospects in the bullpen would give them major league experience, and I doubt they would do much worse than our current pen, which is #17 in MLB despite the money Hendry spent in the offseason.

Ramirez tripled? At home? Did somebody fall down or dive for the ball?

He hit it to the gap and legged it out. Of course, if he had hustled more, he would have had an inside-the-park homer.

Yeah, I think it's predetermined jibberish. But my point is there are tons of predetermined jibberish on these boards that aren't policed, so why is it some are and some aren't policed?
