I wonder if XM will pick him up. Seems like it would be a popular move for them, though obviously it would be "just" radio for now.

The absolute worst is when Jeff Brantley is on it.

But, I do happen to like Tim Kirkjian.

You mean Tim "I love Barry Bonds" Kurkjian. Every time Bonds is about to hit a historic homerun or has hit one, Kurkjian has a piece on SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight praising Bonds. It's sickening.

When Bonds hit #715 SportsCenter used up 20 minutes of airtime on Bonds out of the hour show which included 10 minutes of Bonds praising by Kurkjian (part the piece and part him actually talking that day).

So...the big question is...who loves Bonds more? Kurkjian or Pedro Gomez?

It's a different type of love. Pedro Gomez does the daily reports on how Bonds is feeling, whether he is going to play or not (and if he isn't, the reason for it), and how he is dealing with all the steroid allegations as well as the potential indictments.

Tim Kurkjian only does his Bonds spiel when Bonds hits a historic homerun. When it took Bonds almost two weeks to hit #714, I swear I saw the same Kurkjian piece every other day because they were anticipating him hitting it. The phrase I remember was "when he does finally pass the Babe..." which was changed to "now that he has caught the Babe..." after he hit 714 and changed to "now that he has passed the Babe..." after he hit 715.

Regarding BBTN overall, my only use for the show has been getting highlights of the days games. I certainly don't tune in for "expert" analysis. Really it's the same with ESPN's football "experts", I think most of them are pretty much worthless. So I never put much stock in the quality of analysis per se but a guy like Harold, he just seemed like a good guy and someone I did not mind listening to between highlights. So you can critique his analysis and say he was no better than Kruk or whomever else but I never watched that show for insight. Give me my highlights and people that I stand to listen to.

Out of all the analysts, the only ones I ever listen to are the TNT/ESPN guys for the NBA. Especially TNT; it's the rare case where I honestly as a fan of the game can find myself agreeing with the analysis more often that not.

Regarding Pedro Gomez, did he volunteer to be Barry's personal stalker or did ESPN assign him that job?

Pedro Gomez doesn't love Bonds. His employer has assigned him to the Bonds beat, which, for better or worse, is a decision many news outlets have made. He's a reporter, not a commentator or analyst, a la Kurkijan. You can't criticize Gomez for doing his job. If you don't like the way he does it, that's another matter.

It's clear that none of you work in TV.

On-air personalities have their hands severely tied by the producers and their agendas for a show. I'm sure it's immensely frustrating for a guy like Reynolds to not be able to voice his true opinions about stuff because he'll get reprimanded at the next production meeting.

As such, it's no surprise that they put guys like Kruk out there. The guy doesn't have an original thought in his head, so he'll just spew whatever the producers want him to. Phillips is happy just to have a job at this point, so I'm sure he complies as well.

What I'm saying is this: ESPN clearly has an unreasonable amount of love for Barry Bonds, and they clearly favor Boston over the Yankees. As such, they steer their "talking heads" to voice those biases during the broadcasts. In this case, it sounds like the producers wanted the boys to dump all over A-Rod and Reynolds refused to do it.

more air time for Orestes Destrade!

oh boy, speaking of awful. have you ever heard that guy on xm? he needs to take a few public speaking classes at a local junior college...he stutters and stammers around like he's a fifth grader giving a speech. his interviews are too awkward to even listen to.

as a whole, the guys on xm are possibly worse than the guys on espn. the only guy worth a crap is the guy who does the fantasy baseball show in the mid-morning.

Steiner's show can be pretty good, although his guests aren't always the best.

You're exactly right about Orestes. Mark Patrick is an average host. You could find better, and you could probably find a lot worse.

New XM Baseball this Morning drinking game: Take a shot everytime Buck Martinez refers to someone or something as "interesting." You'll be drunk before the second hour of the show.

"It was a total misunderstanding," Reynolds told the Post. "My goal is to sit down and get back. To be honest with you, I gave a woman a hug and I felt like it was misinterpreted."

that must have been some hug.

He must have hugged her from the back with his hands around her breasts and did a little pelvic thrust maneuver.

Good one.

"It was just a hug. I mean, it happened when I walked in on her in the ladies bathroom, but sill..."

It could have been a move his good friend Clarence Thomas taught him.

:?:

Clarence Thomas, Anita Hill, confirmation hearings, pubic hair, can of coke, long dong silver...... any of this ring a bell?

I think he was barely a teenage when this happened.

At least Reynolds won't call this a "high-tech lynching."

I was just in high school when it all went down.

Yeah, but you were pushing twenty-one. Not the same thing.

Why I oughta.... :club:

Seriously, according to his profile I'm just a year older. Any self respecting teenager had some giggles at this story when it came out in 91.

Thanks for the lesson. I know who Clarence Thomas is and was, and recall following the Anita Hill hearings with great interest at age 14 (I believe it was 1990, no?). My "?" had nothing to do with who he is.

I was 8 when it happened, and I remember it. I think his '?' was directed at the reference to Thomas as a good friend of Reynolds.

Just a guess.
