TOP OF THE NINTH INNING

 

Dempster in (6th) to pitch, Pagan in (9th) in lf for the CUBS

Huff flied out to deep left field

Scott grounded an IF single to second base

Ausmus flied out to center field

Scott took second base on defenive indifference

Munson walked

Taveras grounded out to the pitcher, 1-3

I was just looking back....Z has 10 wins...and the bullpen has blown three games which would have given him wins....

 

Now I know Wins are a pretty crappy stat by which to judge a pitcher...but that being said...Z should be 13-3 on a team 20 games under .500. That is pretty amazing....especially considering that he started out the year as crappy z.

I remember that was because Dusty and Co. wanted him to be calm and hide his emotion better. :roll: After Z sucked at the beginning they changed their position and told him to go back to behaving naturally and here we are! 8)

A couple dozen more series wins and this team will be in contention!

 

If the Cubs just won (2 of 3 or 3 of 4) every series from here on out (after Houston) the Cubs would finish the year with 85 wins which still might not get them into the playoffs.

He actually started improving after he broke his bat on his leg. I was like, YES!! OLD Z is back!! I knew he was gonna pitch a great rest of the game after that.

I was watching that game and I couldn't believe what I saw. Z became my bar-none favorite player after he did that.

No knock on Zambrano, but Brandon Webb has/is looking strong with another good outing against the Dodgers.

I don't think Z will get it because of the Cubs. Even if he pitches well, the team is going to screw him over a couple times and cost him wins by not scoring runs. While the Dbacks aren't a great team, they are a .500 team. Since the main statistic used in the Cy Young voting is wins (not saying it's the right statistic) it's likely that Webb will end up with more wins than Z. Combine that with a better ERA and you have a favorite.
