There has to be a way to get Freel

I understand that teams are sometimes reluctant to trade within the division. But Ryan Freel has to be able to be had. In the 4 games since the stupid Reds trade, Freel has not started once. He hasn't started more than 6 games in a row since April. And his 2nd longest streak of consecutive starts is 3 since then.

 

The Reds have started the likes of Juan Castro, Brandon Phillips, Rich Aurilla, Dwayne Wise of the 300 career ABs at age 28. I guess he does have some sort of minor injury, but has pinch hit everyday.

 

Cincy raves about Freel's versatility, but the fact remains, the Reds have never given a guy with a career .372 OBP a chance to play everyday. In what is a career-year so far, Freel has still only started more than 3 games in a row 1 time in the last 2 1/2 months.

Knowing the Cubs they rather sign Pierre to a long-term deal because he got hot for a couple of weeks than trading a prospect for a utility guy.

I'd imagine Freel will see more PT with Lopez and Kearns gone. Denorfia could become a decent everyday guy, but I'd imagine there are now more openings in the lineup to get Freel some more starts.

He hasn't started the past 6 games because he hurt his shoulder.

All semantics, but to me a grinder is a gamer minus the talent, or potential talent. They both hustle, but the gamer probably has more skilz.

 

I <3 Freel and would LOVE to see him as an everyday player for the next 2-3 years. He's a Lenny Dykstra-type that would immediately help the Cubs at the top of the order and with his versatility on defense. I wish Hendry would actively pursue him but it won't happen.

I think the reason he Doesn't start as often as you Would think Is because he's usually hungover.

Ziggytaxi posted a workaround that helps you search by poster(it's in social somewhere, oh the irony), but I can't remember it's been so long.
