It would seem like either of those records would be enough to get the manager fired, but who knows what Jim Hendry's idea of a lost season is? Apparently he wants Baker back for next season and is hoping the Cubs will make some kind of run to justify extending his contract. He really thought he got someone special when he landed Baker, and he doesn't want to back down now because it would be admitting he made a mistake hiring him in the first place. But if the team continues to stink it up, he will have no choice but to let him go or keep facing all the ridicule.
