Zambrano backing Dusty

Zambrano made some comments yesterday about allowing Dusty to finish out the year and to blame the players, not him, etc.

Is he going to get attacked like Eyre was for his (very similar) comments?

I blame both the players and Dusty. The Dusty issue can be easily taken care relatively easy. The players are a little harder. Who knows...maybe a new manager will insire the players to play fundamentally sound...something this team has sorely lacked.

Z did right to publically endorse Baker....that's what he should do....but there is no doubt in my mind Baker has to go....the sooner the better!

What's Z supposed to say?

Z has every reason to like him. Dusty lets Z throw tons of pitches, which Z seems to want. Plus, since Z is a workhorse, Dusty probably likes him and is really nice to him and everything.

Did Zambrano blame the media for the team's poor play?

The tone is the same though, both players feel the focus should be off Dusty.

It is completely natural for them to stand up for him, I wouldn't expect otherwise. It is not their decision of whether or not he is reatained though, and that is a good thing.

I actually like it when players so "blame the players, not the manager" because in truth, the team would be slightly better if Z could pitch in April and early May. At least its recognizing that the players aren't powerless pawns in all of this.

I don't want a player who says, "its the manager's fault." I want players who say, "We can make this better."

That being said, there are plenty of others who should be examining what Dusty is doing (beesides us) and they should be axing him.

It's a good thing. No such player exists.

Even when the entire team in Philly hated Bowa, not one player came out publically and said it.

The players on a team will rarely criticize a manager in public, unless he is a moron like Kline.

What are the suppose to say? Of course they back the manager....then they support the new manager, just the way it is. Why the bother printing this I'll never know.

That is my exact point. Eyre received some criticism on here a few days ago for the same type of comments. I seem to remember a line about all he does is "eat ho-hos and injure D Lee".

It is a non-issue, 99.9% of players will publically back their manager regardless.

But Eyre said that if people stopped asking about Dusty they would win more games.

It's not the same thing.

Z missed most of spring training due to Bud Selig's ill-timed WBC competition.

It's not like he wasn't pitching. I don't think that had much to do with it at all. He just struggles with his location early in the year. It's happened several times now.
