As much as I love them and own all of their albums, I think the Foo Fighters are a bit overranked here. RATM was better and had more influence than the Foo's.

Springsteen should be in the "solo artists" tourney, not the "bands" tourney.

The E Street Band is just something to add to the end of his name. He's a solo artist.

If Springsteen's in, then how is Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers not in the tourney?

(OK, fire away, I've got my tomato-repelling rainjacket on :))

No tomatoes here, I agree with you.

Actually weren't the first 2 or 3 Foo Fighters albums written and entirely played by Dave Grohl? He only had a band for touring purposes up to that point. I don't know if you could be more of a solo artist than that.

It's a fine line. Hendrix or Jimi Hendrix Experience?

Petty or Petty and the Heartbreakers?

Springsteen or E Street Band?

Dave Matthews or DMB?

Dave may be the least talented member of the DMB. All the rest are solo acts (which is tough for me to say about the Experience, but still).

Hardest pick of the tourney so far for me as I definitely enjoy both these groups immensely, but The Boss has to get a slight edge.

Damn, Foo Fighters got a tought draw here. They're really quite good, but I guess I could understand them losing to Springsteen. Although in my mind Foo Fighters are much more of a rock band than Springsteen is.

Yeah, FF got a really bad draw. If they were up against Rush, they would probably cruise.

Grohl is one of the better musicians out there.

I don't think of Hendrix as a solo-guy at all. The Jimi-Hendrix Experience were all 3 AWESOME, ahead of their time musicians. Mitch Mitchell is considered to be one of the greatest rock drummers of all time, and he was only like 18-23 the whole time he played with Jimi. I've played drums since I was a child, got my first trap set when I was 6...until i played it so hard I busted all the drum heads. Anyways, the first time I heard "Fire", my brain just about exploded and I sat down and learned the drum licks for the next few hours. I think that CD has a permanent skip on "Fire" because of my rewinding it over and over again to get the drum part right.

I've been drumming since I was 10, so I know how great Mitch Mitchell is. But I think Hendrix (like Springsteen & to a lesser extent Petty) was just so much bigger than the band that he overshadows the rest of them.

Well, it certainly helps that his name is part of the band's name.

True, but I wouldn't call Dave Matthews Band a solo artist & a backup band.

Springteen's work with the E Street Band is completely different (and much better IMO) than his solo stuff.
