The Kerry Wood 5 minute era is done with the Cubs. I wonder where the WHIP excuse crew is? We still have to pay the bum $3 million to leave next year. But Hendry now has $9 million in his pocket for next year. Add Maddux's salary and we're talking quite a FA war chest.

Hendry will use that extra $18M and split it up between Pierre, Mabry and Blanco to keep them around.

It will be interesting to see what type of contract Kerry gets next year and from whom. I'd imagine it would be a 1-year deal, no more than $3M.

It's probably a little early for this type of prediction, but I think this makes Wood a lock for the Cubs next year. Hendry has no problem taking a flyer on injured pitchers. Does anyone doubt he'll give Wood a one year, incentive-laden deal?

At this point, who else would gamble on him?

It'll be an interesting (and hopefully healthy) off-season for Kerry Wood.

Doubt it. Wood is due for $13.5 million if they pick up his option. Obviously thats not going to happen.

So the next best thing would be to buyout his deal for $3 million and then sign him to a reduced deal...probably $3 million more, meaning we'd be paying him $3 million to play catch in Mesa next season. No thank you and if Hendry does this, I am going to beat him down with a boot.

Good thing Kerry pitched through an injury and delayed having surgery so he could help us "contend" for the play-offs late last year. Oh well, it's just a rotator cuff, it's not like it is his livelihood or anything.

One thing I wonder about...in the last year Kerry has had every kind of test imaginable on that shoulder. Other than the problem they corrected with surgery every test has come back showing he is structurally sound. Now he hasn't thrown in awhile and yet now they say he has a partial tear of the rotator cuff. Now just how does that happen and how did they finally find it?

And has anyone only been out 4 to 6 weeks with a torn rotator cuff? 6 weeks from today would be August 19th. Anyone want to bet that he will be back pitching by August 19th?

i think the more common excuse would be, you know, the tear in his rotator cuff.
