I can't wait for the first time somebody on the Bears drills one of their offensive fairies. There's no team in the NFL that plays softer than the St. Louis Rams. And for that reason, I hate them.

Well, the first time will be just that - the first time a Bear drilled any Ram. We usually just juke the Bears plodding linebackers and watch them tumble like Jenga blocks. It's good times. :D

I gotta admit, the Rams under Martz were soft, but they were the greatest offense ever assembled - so it worked for them. Two trips to the Super Bowl in three years says something. Football is not all brute force of course, strategy wins.

The Colts are softer though - hands down. Besides, the Rams are entering a new era and the dive to the turf to avoid the hit Rams are history now. Steven Jackson make it so.

BTW, I hope I am not being viewed as trolling here, that's not my intentions. If I were I would just say Faulk > Payton but I am not that dumb.

Wow, I've never heard anyone refer to Briggs or Urlacher as plodding.

Me too. That's just silly. Someone is in for a dose of reality 8)

Rams fan, eh? May I present my all-time favorite NFL moment...

http://espn-att.starwave.com/media/nfl/2004/0110/photo/a_smith_ft.jpg

uugh..

Clown-x route... appropriately named too.

Stupid Jason Sehorn! Stupid Martz! he should have never let your guys have the OT. We had your Panthers backpedaling and all the momentum was rollign with the Rams. Martz went for the tie at the end of regulation because he got burned in a similar scenario against the Chargers the year before during pre-season when going for the win.

arrrghhh

That was a great game though and the Panthers played better for 3 1/2 quarters than the Rams, they deserved the win.

Wow, I've never heard anyone refer to Briggs or Urlacher as plodding.

Ok, fair enough. Those are both very good and athletic linebackers. I like both of them and agree that they don't fit the description of 'plodding'. Urlacher ended up chasing Faulk down the field towards the end zone he was defending more times than stuffing him at the line much less for a loss. Urlacher is a stud, no doubt - would love him on my team - but it doesn't change what has happened.

Or the Rams as the best offense of all time.

Are you aware of what happened from 1999-2001?

- NFL record for total offensive yards in 2000, with 7,335.

- 5,492 of those were passing yards, also a new NFL team record.

- The only team in NFL history to score 500+ points in 3 consecutive seasons.

- 1,569 points were the most points scored by any team over any three-year stretch.

*above info taken from Wikipedia

They set just about every team offense record. They set mutiple individual records. What else would they have to do to earn it?

Sure, a few teams have had seasons similar the Rams did over those three years, '90 Bills, '98 Vikings and Broncos, '92 Cowboys, the 49ers in '89 but no team has ever maintained that level for 3 years... other than the Rams. Love them or hate them it doesn't change what happened.

Dude, the Rams are terrible now. Get a grip.

I disagree.

The Rams played poorly last year but much has changed and the '05 season has little bearing on what happens in '06.

Given the cirumstances of the team last year it wasn't a suprise. When your Head Coach has to leave the team due to a serious illness things can go downhill quickly (perhaps that wouldn't apply to our Cubs and Dusty though  ). Power struggle in the F.O. causing uncertainty with players and staff, Bulger out for the year, rookies thrusted into starting roles, converting a WR to FS in a pinch.. I am just scratching the surface - it was a very difficult season. Not your typical 'dealing with injuries' type of thing.

Despite everything that happened I think they could have won at least 2 more games and broke even at 8-8.

Good? No.

Respectable? Yes.

We shall see where we are on Dec. 11th. 8)

The NFC West will be pretty open IMO once Alexander goes down to the Madden Curse (and you know it's happening).

Could someone explain to me why Lovie Smith was criticized for poor coaching during last year's playoff game?

I think there were a few reasons, but the only one I can remember was for his bad decision to put a scrub, possibly rookie DB on Steve Smith.

He played him one on one the entire game. Even after he burned them for a TD on one of the first plays of the game. Then Holmgren did what everyone else should've been doing - triple-teaming him and basically daring Carolina to throw to a banged-up Colbert and a joke Drew Carter - and the Panthers couldn't get anything going. That's why.

Seattle and Arizona are both better than St. Louis. I don't see the Rams making the playoffs this year.

New coach too. Usually takes a year just for the staff to get their bearings.

and that "one" wasn't Nathan Vasher. another problem was Mike Brown never coming back to form after the injury. Vash with a healthy Brown over the top and the Bears win the game.

Go Pack...please don't suck as much as last year, ty.

I hate you I hate you I hate you

This is equivalent to me as someone being a Cardinals fan in Chi-town.

I'm eyeing someone in particular here.

If there is a God, the Pack will have to go through a few more years of bad football before being good again-------just like everyone else.

I think they'll be bad at least another 2-3 years.

At least.

Thanks for the link, Jon. Unfortunately they don't have the date that Cowboys tickets are going on sale.

Are you sure the Cowboys are selling individual game tickets this year? Their website only has ticket packages.

Sadly, it looks like the Bears are using individual passwords this year.

Right now, they're trying to get fans to by a pre-season game ticket by linking it to a single game.

If I have to, I'll use Ebay for my ticket needs. I got a decent deal on some seats there last year.

I'm guessing they're bad for awhile as well. I don't think much of ANY team in the division, and watch all the Bears fans jump on me now

Agreed with this. The Bears defense is great, blah blah blah. Unless you're the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, you need some form of offense and the Bears really haven't upgraded their offense to make their team a Super Bowl-caliber team.

The Bears defense simply will not be as good as last year. It would be ludicrous to expect that. And their offense is not better enough to make up for the fall off the defense will take. I think they will win the division off defense but I'd be shocked if they won more than 9 games.

Why is it ludicrous to expect that? They have upgraded on defense from last year and haven't lost a single starter on that side of the ball. No one is aging or in decline.

The Bears have the easiest schedule in the NFL and they have improved their offense with the addition of Griese (In the event that Grossman breaks or bombs). They have upgraded their special teams and return games.

9 games? That's absurd and based on the fact that you are a massive Panthers homer.

They should be just as good, barring injuries. It's ludicrous to think otherwise.

The thing with the Bears scheme is that they don't flip their corners, instead they allow the offense to dictate the matchups.

Hopefully Lovie & co. learn from the experience and win some playoff games this year.

Possible reasons for improvement in the Bears offense this year:

- 2nd season in offensive scheme

- Offensive line is returning, continuity is very important on the o-line

- Grossman-Griese 1-2 instead of Orton being not so good for most of the games

- Young receivers improving, Berrian wasn't healthy last year until late and was great in the playoff game and Bradley was improving when he got hurt

- Ced Ben in camp and ready for this year, he could be more talented then Jones, and Jones fell off a little bit in the middle of last year, having Benson ready from week 1, even if he doesn't start, could easily mean more backfield production, Adrian Peterson also had a great game last year and is the 3rd stringer

What the hell does me liking the Panthers have to do with the Bears? Are they fierce rivals now and no one told me?

And just because there are a lot of Bears homers on this site doesn't mean it's not possible that you are not being homers too.
