well Detroit only offered Wallace 4/48 so the Bulls have the ability to top that.

Have they made an official offer, or is that what the Pistons would like to pay Wallace?

Detroit Free Press[/url]"]The Pistons have offered a four-year deal worth approximately $48 million to keep their defensive-minded center in Detroit. And the Chicago Bulls, who sent coach Scott Skiles and vice president of basketball operations John Paxson to Detroit, have started bidding at closer to $52 million for four seasons.

I don't think an additional $4M over 4 years is going to do it. 5 years, $65M might.

I think Wallace is looking for a five-year deal. I wouldn't mind if Paxson gave Wallace 5/$60M or so - with Tyrus and Thomas and Ben Wallace we'd have made huge strides in solving our size issues.

The NBA's over 36 rule comes into play. If the Bulls -- or any team -- sign Wallace to a 5-year deal, then the dollar amount of his final year counts against their cap, spread across the first four years of his deal. So a five-year deal at $16M per season would count as $20M a season against the cap over the first four years of the deal, for instance.

For what it's worth, Wallace has said he isn't looking for a fifth season. I just think the Bulls need to blow him away somehow to pry him from the Pistons.

Didn't know that about Wallace and a potential 5-year contract. Paxson may have to come in with a 4-year deal that will be significantly higher than Detroit's or anybody else's to make things work out for everybody.

ESPN reports, Ben Wallace to sign with the Bulls for a reported $52million contract.

Wowza Dowza. Pax is serious as a heart attack. Bulls will be making a run in '07!

The Bulls have signed Ben Wallace per Chad Ford of ESPN.com

The biggest free-agent prize of the NBA offseason appears to be off the market. Ben Wallace has informed the Pistons that he will sign with the Bulls, Insider Chad Ford reports. The deal is believed to be $52 million for four years.

Words can not express how I feel right now. I wish my other favorite sports teams (mainly the Cubs) could have a GM as good as Pax. We didn't even have to give Wallace a 5th year, something a lot of Bulls fans were dreading. Awesome job Pax...let's make a deep postseason run next year!

YES!

I have very mixed feelings of this.

Our frontcourt is going to have very little offense. Imagine if we trotted out a lineup of Hinrich- Gordon - Wallace (PF) - Chandler -Thomas

Ugh.

Paxson is the anti-Hendry. Who thought he could rebuild this dreadful Bulls team as quickly as he has? Wow. Signing Wallace as a FA trumps trading Gordon/Deng/Noch for anyone. Awesome. I can't wait for the fall now.

This move is doubly great because it weakens a division rival. Nothing like signing away players from the division champs!

Or imagine if we trotted out a lineup of Hinrich, Gordon, Deng, Nocioni, Wallace. SWEET

Then we are paying a lot of money for a lineup that has no one taller than 6'9''

What do we do with Chandler?

Rumor has it that a trade of Tyson Chandler to New Orleans for PJ Brown (expiring contract) and JR Smith will soon follow the signing.

Could also ultimately wind up a sign and trade, with Brown going to Detroit for Wallace.

Wait

We are gonna get both the Wallaces? This is gonna get interseting fast.

EDIT: I just realized I pluralized something with an apostrophe, I feel so stupid.

Haha, not Rasheed (although that WOULD be sick).

The rumor was that Brown would go to Detroit in a sign and trade for Ben.

This could still be the case, I think, because official details have yet to be released on Big Ben, and no contract can be signed until the 12th anyway.
