Baker's why this team has had 8 game, 6 game, and 9 game loosing streaks within the last couple years. Whiney credit to other team giving, excuse maker.

There should be NO EXCUSES. EVER! If you had a manager with THIS attitude, you would not see long loosing streaks that the cubs have.

Now, now are you forgetting he is a "players manager?"

I'm a fan of Angel Pagan

Who wouldn't be ??

Pagan AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
04/03 - 06/24 19 2 5 1 0 0 6 1 0 4 0.263 0.263 0.316 0.579

Those are some solid numbers

Zero walks. We have got to be impressed with his aggressive approach at the plate. He'll fit in nicely on the Cubs.

Let Baker have his excuses. What does it really matter? We know better (and I'm NOT being sarcastic). And most of the enlightened baseball world knows, too.

I pretty much agree. I am not going to work myself into a lather over this anymore. It was a good sign that Prior that was in low 90s all night, and topped out at 96 (I think), only b/c it increases his trade value. That's really all I care about at this point....and what the Bulls do on Wed. night.

Trading Prior would be downright silly.

This issue has been dicussed at length in several different transactions threads. I won't rehash it here.

I haven't chimed in on any of those yet but let me say this. If he does well you can get some NICE players for him this year. And they will be much more valuable. I GUARANTEE you, as a Cub, Mark Prior will NOT start out of the gate. He will be another 1-2 months late again next year. And we cannot afford to rely on him anymore.

still at it...

"Jim hasn't changed his mind," Baker said. "He knows what I can do. If I've got the horses, I'm going to win. Count it. That's been my record,
? I didn't lose all this—what I know—overnight."

"It's OK. I was in the same situation in San Francisco. I was in trouble there too. Give me horses, and if my horses stay healthy, I'll win."

and then he takes his typical nonsense to another level altogether...

Baker referred to his brother's bouts with depression, a stint in the Marines, playing and managing for bad teams in the past, and being hounded by the IRS for tax problems.

"I wasn't down and out in Beverly Hills, but I was down and out, and guess what?" he said. "I came out of it. I come out of everything."

"If people want to blame me for everything that's happened this year, I'm a powerful man—more powerful than I know."

is he telling us he's superman with that last one? i'm confused.

Hahahahah, i like that he's basically saying what we've been saying all along, the manager doesnt matter, give a terrible manager good players and he'll still win. He wins if he has good players, loses if he has bad players, hahahah, way to go Dusty.

exactly. all he asks is that you give him a bunch of really good players that are 100% healthy for the entire season. if that happens, he'll win games. that's why he makes the big bucks, people.

If he doesnt even know how powerful he is, how can a couple of internet chatboarders like us know? Give the man a break!

I read that whole article. I've always laughed at Baker quotes before. But now he is just going waaaaay overboard. Ok Baker, yeah, uhuh. Sounds bitter doesn't he? Maybe he knows chicago hates him and he's on his way outta town. GOOD! Keep talking about it radio, papers, chicago. Keep talking about how baker SUCKS!! Make him HATE us.

We might find out how powerful Baker is if this keeps up. Its only a matter of time before the fans boil over with rage and bury him alive under the pitching mound after a 27,434-1 loss (Nevin HR).

God, please strike down the Cubs front office.

If you want horses, go and coach the Noo Yawk Yawnkees, or perhaps the Bastan Red Sachs. In Chicago you have to learn to coach colts, pony, and mules.

No, he's telling you his "Lex Luthor," cause his team is definately the "Legion of Doom."

Why would we trade Prior? You never trade pitching for hitting, and if you were trading for another starter, what's the point? Even with his injury history, who has more upside than a 25 year old Prior? Plus, a lot of his injuries have been freak ones...let him try to recover from this ACTUAL injury, a sore shoulder, and give him time. Way way to early to try and trade him...

Explain why he missed 2 months of baseball this year. Was that a "freak" incident? I don't care who has more upside, I'll take a stable above average dependable #3 pitcher than an unstable possible #1 (someday) because the first one will get off to a good start and be pitching for you when spring training ends. The other one will be whipping towels for you.

Prior is a pitcher YOU wait for. When (not if) he is healthy, you are going to be glad you stay patient.

Problem is Hendry and Dusty would continue to "WAIT" and then blame the fact that he didn't pitch all year as a reason they are loosing. Also Hendry will not go out and GET a #3 IF he keeps Prior. If we had a good GM I'd say fine keep him. But with Hendry, Keeping him means not getting someone else. You can understand that position, right?

Posted
Baker and Hendry need to go for what they have done since they took their positions, but as far as this season is concerned, it's all on the players. We have about 20 guys who should be playing better.

And Baker should be motivating them to play better.

Prior isn't a very good pitcher. I'd trade him for a hitter just like I'd trade Hill for a hitter.
