In today's Tribune, Baker emphasized that Nevin is gone as soon as DLee returns. By the time he leaves (in a few days), he might be leading the team in HRs and RBIs. If only Hendry could find a team desperate for a right-handed DH and be willing to give us a decent prospect. Oh well, I can dream.

That's a good point. There isn't anywhere else for Nevin to play and he's going to be resigned to a pinch hitting role.

I don't see why Nevin can't stay on this team and play every other day when Lee gets back.

-He can back up Lee when he needs a break.

-He can back up Ramirez when he needs a break.

-He could easily play left or right field.

-He can even catch (i believe, correct me if im wrong)

I'd agree with you, but I don't know how willing the Cubs are to give him any significant playing time at 3b/LF/RF/C...he hasn't played any of them very much lately. Since '04, he's played 22.1 Innings at C, 1 inning at 3b, and 0 innings in the OF. All the rest have come at 1b/DH.

I'd be more than willing to give Nevin a chance in LF...Murton hasn't been a gold glover either, and at least we'd have a few legit power threats with Nevin, Lee, and Ramirez in our lineup. I'd love to have his versatility and power be an option for this club, he's actually got a lot of value if used correctly. A nice sub at a few different positions that can provide legitimate power off the bench when he's not starting.

Hopefully the Cubs can increase this guys trade vaule by giving him as many at-bats as possible. Give Aram a couple days off at third in the next few weeks. Pinch hit with Nevin as much as possible. Give him a start at catcher while Barett is out. Nevin plus a bullpen arm might net us a pretty good prospect from an AL contender.

Season is over there is no reason to keep Nevin. Especially if it means limiting the playing time of DEVELOPING players. This is the STUPID idea that first year players should be producing at some sort of all star level and if they are not replace them with a 35 yr old has been that has been the biggest problem with the Cubs for years. So if Nevin starts in Left we will finish 21 games out instead of 24. It would be moronic to take Murton out. Let him play and he may develop into a productive player. For those who say he can do it in the minors that is just stupid. The last rung on every ladder is the top. The last stage of development for a MLB player is the Major Leagues and MOST players struggle at that level at first.

He has had a nice run so maybe our return for him will be greater than Jerry Hairston

Since 2000, Nevin has caught exactly three more games than I have, and he's played third only once since 2002. Reports of his position versatility are greatly exaggerated.

He's having a nice little run at the moment. Let's ship him to a playoff contending GM who's panting for a right-handed bat off the bench. Mr. Hendry, I have Kevin Towers on line 2 ...

I like the SD idea but considering they got rid of him to Texas because he was one of the malcontents in SD... Washington maybe?? Bowden is absolutely clueless and wouldnt have a problem with the defense as long as Nevin could hit the baseball real far.

On second thought Hendry might do that deal as long as we got Guillen back from Washington.

Baker has said that he will not play the OF because of defensive liabilities and the Tribune article basically said that all parties understood that they needed him only until DLee got back. I'm hoping they can get something for him rather than releasing him and getting nothing.

It always helps the GM when his manager comes out an says he won't be using a player and he's as good as gone!

Drive that price up, Dusty!

In a trade he could bring a player or two that could help the Cubs in the future, something Nevin isn't going to do.

what makes the most sense is trading him for something/anything - of course that means we'll be releasing him in a few days and he'll get picked up by a contending team for the 2nd half of the season and probably end up hitting some penant clinching HR or something.

Len said something in the pregame show about Nevin seeing sometime this week in LF without Freddy Bynum going down with his injury. So much for the "I like guys that catch the ball" nonsense. If Nevin is gonna play some LF why not put him in RF against lefties so Jones doesn't embarass himself.
