Who would you most like to trade...

Shamelessly lifted from Bleed Cubbie Blue, I thought it would be interesting to see the results here. I'll post who I voted for and why in a following post.

 

This is assuming you get market value for what this player is worth.

Without hesitation I would say Jacque Jones. He's hot, hot, hot right now, which means we could get GOOD market value for him, and he's got a 3 year albatross contract that I think the Cubs would be glad to get rid off.

 

He's playing well above what he should be right now, and it would be a perfect time to trade him before his hot streak ends.

Great poll! I went with Dempster because (a) closers are overvalued and (b) I'm not sure he'll still be around for the next Cubs' playoff team. However, Jones is a very good choice as well, although the Cubs would probably have to eat some of that nasty contract in order to get real value in return.

I went with Juan Pierre. I have no idea what he can bring considering he is a free agent at the end of the season, but I would be happy if the Cubs received a financial compensation.

 

I want him gone. I would have less problem with his struggles if he was moved to eighth in the order, but as long as Baker is manager he will be leadoff. So, I think he needs to go.

 

If they can get a minor leaguer or even money from a team in the playoff hunt then the Cubs should take it. At least they will have something to show for the young arms they gave up. Even having to type this is depressing. :cry:

I chose Niefi. Dusty has a serious man-love for the guy, and I would like to see how he manages without his favorite toy.

Pierre is the one who can do most harm to this team by remaining since Dusty will not move him, and since I have little faith in Hendry not to bring him back based solely on his SB totals, I say trade him.

I voted for Slappy for basically the same reason. Neifi doesn't deserve to be traded, he should be DFA so I couldn't vote for him.

I voted for Pierre. I don't want to trade Neifi or Bynum. Just DFA them and speed up the process.

Trade or release? I'd release Neifi yesterday. Same with a lot of others.

 

But if you're talking trade you are talking about trying to get something back for somebody you don't think will help much in the future. Jones and Dempster are the two best guys in this scenario. Both would involve getting rid of a contract that could hold back the team in the future. And both could draw interest from teams in the race.

See, this is another reason I made the poll....there's a lot of Neifi hate going on here.

 

He hasn't been used that much this year, and when he has, it's been for a defensive infield when someone like Maddux is pitching. Walker/Cedeno have been playing almost every day. Why get rid of him when you can get rid of Jones?

He hasn't been used much? Are you kidding? He's played in nearly 50 games, is on pace for more than 350 at bats, and is actually having a worse season than last year. Plus, he's owed $2.5m next year, in addition to the rest of this year's deal. He absolutely sucks, plays way too much, and handicaps the future. Don't sugar coat how much he hurts this team, because he does, immensely.
