There is no situation in an exchange of words where resorting to hateful bigoted words is necessary. He was absolutely out of line, and I've lost all respect for him.

You're all absolutely right about the derogatory sexual slurs. I'm not debating that at all. They have no place anywhere.

But you know what? Someone decides to badmouth me in the newspaper, I'm going to use every swear word I can find. It may not be professional in the sports sense, but attacks upon a person don't have to be professional.

Both of them just need to keep their traps shut if nothing productive is going to come out of them.

did I miss something - did Mariotti say something about Guillen? If not, what gives him the obligation to open his mouth to defend an opposing manager? That is simply classless and really his comments are extraordinarily offensive.

Guillen apparently has also made some criticisms of Ozzie and Chad Tracey or something...the Dusty thing was not the only trigger.

yep, sorry - just noticed that as well....still does not justify some of those comments

Ozzie is the perfect manager that fits perfectly into that team and thier fans. You call him unclassy and he is! He is the identiy of all the whole Org. and thier fans. It's either fans punching 3rd base coaches or their manager calling newspaper columinst homophobic names. This is who the W.Sox are and if they can win like that, and are proud of doing it in that way then more power to them!

This Marriotti article on 6/16 is what, I think, set off Guillen.

Using a baseball as a weapon is dangerous. Watching Ozzie Guillen order a kid pitcher to retaliate with a weapon is frightening. And when that kid pitcher fails to be a goon-on-demand, prompting Guillen to rip into a humiliated Sean Tracey, I am left to ponder three disturbing thoughts about the Blizzard of Oz.

Has he officially lost his mind?

Are his priorities in sufficient order to manage the White Sox to an encore title?

And is he involved in so many rants and raves and headline-grabbing incidents, about two a week these days, that he's burning all of us out -- including his players?

...Players lose respect for a manager who hangs a teammate out to dry. No? The Sox camp isn't exactly airtight these days. When the Sun-Times and the Sox' own Web site quoted postgame sources who leaked that Guillen was furious with Tracey for not nailing Blalock -- "Ozzie went nuts. He had the ass, big-time,'' one source was quoted as saying -- it suggests that secrets are being told out of school. Guillen can't be happy about it, especially after inventing some jive story about being mad because Agustin Montero wasn't ready to pitch in the bullpen. He concocted the tale so he could avoid a suspension from on high. Now, there's a fair chance the case will be investigated and Guillen could face punishment, all because of the snitch. And we know how Oz doesn't like snitches, based on his most recent rant about steroids informant Jason Grimsley and how someone should "shoot the [bleep]'' for revealing details and names to federal investigators.

It'd be interesting to know what the trigger was. Considering the magnitude of this story, I'm surprised the "trigger" hasn't been made more clear.......

Add Mariotti to the list of Ozzie Guillen enemies. I tell you, mark it down. When Carlos Lee gets a chance, he is going to try to end someone's career on an Ozzie Guillen-managed club.

Weren't there a gazillion other writers printing pretty much the same thing that Mariotti printed that day (Concerning the Tracey/Guillen incident)?

Why attack Mariotti?

B/c he's very negative about the White Sox. Their fans hate his guts. On whitesoxinteractive.com, any thread about his news is marked as spam and labeled, "latest nonsense from media troll Moronotti."

You almost have to assume that he did, or Mariotti wouldn't have printed it, would he??

If he did say that, ......... wow.

He's an easy target because he's not well liked on either side of town (but he's had a longstanding feud with White Sox management, ownership, and broadcasters). Marriotti is hardly innocent but Guillen continuing to feed the gremlin shows a lack of good judgement in my opinion.

I forgot about this beauty Marriotti penned on 6/11.

It doesn't matter today that Ozzie Guillen is a champion manager. Once again, he has embarrassed his profession with a senseless and irresponsible rant. At a time when baseball needs strong, honest leadership from all corners to restore the credibility of a chemical-ravaged, cheat-infested sport, the Blizzard of Oz responds with his most reckless and disturbing comments yet.

In Guillen's frat-house world, the code of the clubhouse is more important than a federal investigation. Sounding more like a mob boss than a visible and influential figure in the game, he assailed Jason Grimsley and said he should have zipped his lips, protected all suspects and moved on. Rather incredibly, the manager of the White Sox seems to be advocating a steroids cover-up -- there is no other way to put it -- just as the feds are cracking the case, closing in on the frauds, ready to out big names and confirming that players still are using human growth hormone because Major League Baseball has no reliable test nor any apparent interest in saving urine specimens for future analysis...

Yeah, Ozzie just give credence to what Mariotti is writing. It is like a self fulfulling prophecy. Even Sox fans have to admit that when things go south, Ozzie's nonsense will not be tolerated and he will be shown the door without hesitation.

It's not often I agree with K-Town.

Are you coming over from the dark side? 8)

Hey...... it's not as cold over here as they told me it would be!

We'll be scratching each others eyes again soon enough, I'm afraid....

One other thing, does it concern anyone else that Jay Mariotti is the mouth piece of all things Chicago sports to the nation? I think he is a blowhard and feel that the garbage he spews on Around the Horn just gives the nation a bad projection of what sports fans in Chicago are like.

Mariotti might not be a very good writer, but he does know that the Cubs need to fire Dusty. And the more of those people in the national media, the better.

Ehh, we'll see. The suckiness of the Cubs and the awfulness of the MacPhail/Hendry/Dusty trio has sucked all the arguing out of me. :(

I was under the impression that Sox fans hated Mariotti a tad less than Cubs fans seem to, but that was clearly mistaken.

Everyone hates Mariotti. How else can you explain Kellerman leaving for FSN?

Kellerman being a terrible sports pundit, for one.

I am a White Sox and Cubs fan (both of my parents supported different teams and it just kinda stuck) and I find Ozzie's comments deplorable, but I think it's also wrong to loop an entire fan base in with them. Do you want me to tag you with every idiotic thing your fans or organization does or say?

How many Cubs fans posted that picture of Ozzie kissing one of his sons at Houston on the lips after winning the World Series? You don't think they they were playing on homophobia and saying something about his manlyhood? And didn't a Cubs fan run onto the field and attack Cubs pitcher Randy Myers like 10 years ago? And what does this have to do with the Gamboa attack anyway? Not to mention that idiot Ligue was at Wrigley earlier that day getting drunk as a skunk.

I am starting to hate all the fan bases outside of those who practice intelligence and discretion. Sox fans are obsessed with the Cubs and too into Ozzie's asinine, macho antics, while Cubs fans think they are somehow better than White Sox fans and continnue to send their money to the Tribune corporation without fail.
