So goony, how many starts was that you said Prior and Wood were going make this year...50? 60? I'll seriously be surprised if they make 10 between them.

Wood is a wart on this team. I'm surprised he has lasted as long as he has in the face of Hendry's "Bad Attitude Purge". I guess its just because Wood has the big arm. But, look at Wood's BA credentials:

-Led the anti-Mack Newton revolt amongst pitchers

-Led the anti-Sosa revolt, allegedly taking a Louisville Slugger to the dreaded Sosa-Salsa-Box that was the cause of the 2004 collapse

-One of the anti-Stone crew assisting in Stone's departure

Maybe its Wood who should be the pariah, due both to his underachievement along with his attitude?

Really, Mack Newton was a devastating loss. Injuries were a fraction of what they usually are when he was around.

Just retire....what a joke.

The guy pretty much single handly one us our first playoff series since 1908. He got hurt pitching for our team. Way to stay classy.

So next year when we don't pick up wood's option what are we gonna use that money on?

I'd like to see us use it on a starting pitcher who can pitch 200 innings. But my bet is Hendry will sign Soriano and put him at second and then resign Pierre.

Does it ever seem like Hendry trully does have a plan. Every year he tries something new.

Sounds like he's not doing any worse, just not better. No reason to bring him off the DL this weekend.

I would hate to see the Cubs let Wood go and sign somewhere else for a few million dollars and have it come back to haunt us. They should buy out his contract and bring him back for 1 year with an incentive-laden deal. We've taken similar chances with Dempster, Williamson, and Miller so we can do it with Wood too. After all the money that has been spent on him, what's a few more million, and Wood also has to feel like he kind of owes it to the organization to come back cheap for a year until he can prove himself again.

felt "something" after about 60 pitches

No mention of this from Len, only that Wood started to feel fatigued after 60 pitches.

Just different words. Len said he didn't feel good after 60 pitches.

If the problem is only after 60 pitches time to send him to the bullpen. Hendry needs to sit with Wood and hammer out a one year deal with a base of 4 million and incentives if he can stay healthy. Let Wood work out his issues in the bullpen and then next spring try and get him stretched out again to be a starter if not you can slot him into the bullpen.

This would be depressing if not for two things:

1. We aren't contending for anything this year.

2. I have already realized Wood will not be back.

What happens to Wood this year really doesn't affect the Cubs' present or future.

He didn't feel "something". Way for the original poster to spin it negatively. He said he felt fatigued. I guess that's "something", but historically, in the past, "something" constituted an injury or tightness.

Let's remember he's 5 starts removed from Shoulder surgery, it might take a little more playing time to get back to normal status and normal recovery status.

Then again, we can insinuate his "bad" character and spread BS lies about him breaking boomboxes even though he came on the radio and unequivocally denied doing that and/or talk about how he's a joke and should retire at 28 or 29.

Whatever.

Kerry needs to build up arm strength. He wouldn't be able to properly rehab while coming in for relief. And they really have no need for him in the bullpen.
