Starting tonight in Cleveland. Scheduled to come back against White Sox.

Should have started suspension on Friday when he couldn't play. Why did he appeal this thing anyway?

The dumb moves continue.

We were still in the race....and we still are in the race, by the way.

They appealed it, hoping it would get reduced and that they could keep Barrett's bat in the lineup until DLee would return. I think it is an abomination that MLB allows things to be dragged out for so long, but it was a smart move on the Cubs part.

All except the part about not just dropping the suspension and letting him start serving it when they knew he'd be out for a few days...thad was, as per usual, a dumb move.

Odds it would have been lowered more than the 3 games barrett just sat out: low.

surprised that they didn't lower the length, though, it seems like they give suspensions intending to reduce the time later.

you mean he didn't already start his suspension?

Boy am I out of the loop... I just assumed that was what was happening, or WOULD happen if there was another reason to sit him...

I guess nothing is really that surprising...

yet Alomar only got 5 games for this:

what a joke. let boys be boys and play the game rough. Attacking the integrity of the game by spitting on an umpire should call for a much greater suspension than just a fight.

What keeps getting lost in all of this is how if Hendry had built a better team, AJ may not have been on base and subsequently would not have thrown his face at Barrett's fist. Travesty.

I can only dream that it was Neifi who hit AJ. But he probably would have swung and missed that too.

I'm pretty sure that you can't serve a suspension while unable to play, even if you're not on the DL. Someone - correct me if I'm wrong, but I think if Barrett was too injured to actually play a game, they couldn't just drop the appeal and let him start serving the suspension.

This really doesn't matter. We were going to lose with Barrett; we're going to lose without him. Maybe these ten games will help improve Blanco's trade value for a deadline deal.

I think you may see Nevin get about 40% of the playing time.

Who DH's for the inter-league games?

Who cares? None of them can hit.

Who was tried at catcher for an inning and homered in that inning. It didn't affect him then. If they tried that, I'm sure they'll give him 2 or 3 next time and see how he responds.

Well obviously we couldn't have said...Barrett's hurt...he'll start serving it...but I think we could have hid that fact....anyway....its not like it matters....I'd really like to see Bynum DFAed and have Soto get a call up...seeing young guys play is about the only thing interesting we'll have all year...and unfortunatly, we won' tget much of that either.
