Let me start by saying that this weekend was an awesome success. More opposing fans than I have ever seen at a Cubs series, an embarrassing sweep at home, and Santo/Brenly are chafing at the team publicly. I think Ron will endanger his job soon with an explosion if this keeps up.

If we can just hold out and keep circling the drain like this, Baker will become the next scapegoat and we can turn this ship around in time for next season. Surely we can count on the stubbornness and cowardice of the front office to sacrifice the manager for their own good.

This team is helping its cause whether or not they know it, because leadership and success start at the top levels and trickle down.

Note: Notice the Marlins have won seven straight. Very interesting to see a team with a 15M payroll blow us away in performance.

I think that the only team we are better than is the Royals and they might give us a run for our money. We only have 1 good starting pitcher left, our offense sucks, we somehow ended up with the worst manager in baseball and to top it off our GM is quite possibly the 2nd worst GM in sports(Isiah Thomas is first.) Way to build a winner!!

I have finally joined the ranks of people hoping the Cubs tank. I still want the players who should be here next year (Prior, Zambrano, Lee, Ramirez, Barrett) to do well, but the rest of them can go to hell. Even then, management will probably remain the same, but since the season is over as far as a playoff run goes, they might as well suck to their full potential. Then maybe, just maybe, someone competent will be put in charge and they will have a better chance of rebounding in 2007.

i'm sorry, but we aren't better than the royals. if the royals had the same payroll as the cubs they would have a better record than us.

ain, truth

I didn't want to be too pessimistic :) Then again, truth hurts.

I honestly don't expect a whole lot of changes. I fully expect this year's performance to be attributed to injuries and nothing else by management. Regardless whether Baker gets re-signed, Hendry just signed an extension, and IMO Hendry's a bigger problem than Baker (although Baker contributes a healthy share to the ineptitude of this team).

The point here is, we have now reached the level where comparisons between us & the Royals are quickly gaining legitimacy.

That's a helluva thing to have happen to a ballclub spending $100 mil on a team that the Trib sold as a playoff contender.

Do you know what's sad, how many losers other teams waived have the Cubs signed to help the team out? Rusch, Neifi, Womack, Rey Ordonez, Enrique Wilson, and I'm sure if Old man Grissom didn't retire he would be playing LF right now. Absolutely pathetic. I wake up every morning and wonder why in the world is this coaching staff still intact?

I don't think the Trib can stand to take much more of a black eye on this issue, regardless of the current attendance. When you consistently put an infuriatingly terrible product on the field, there is no way it can continue without hurting the bottom line of an already flagging corporation.

All of us here know that the tickets are already sold for this year, but next year the single ticket sales day WILL see the diffierence, especially if Dusty gets resigned and nothing changes, other than a few tweaking trades and second place finishes in FA signings. No one --I repeat-- no one will support a 100+ loss team without overhauls.

The Cubs are in danger, for the first time ever, of losing Chicago to the Sox. They have characters on their team, a fireball of a manager, and they win constantly, second only to the team that destroyed us this weekend. The media is already completely on their side, and a large chunk of people in this country believe whatever the picture box tells them.

We're also in danger of losing our national fanbase, as well. Arizona now has a team and is no longer the Cubs stronghold it once was. They have a good DBacks team out there, and the fans WILL watch a winner eventually. The Arizona effect is taking place in many cities and areas now with the last few expansion teams sniffing out all possible fanbases.

When I think of the Cubs these days, I am always pissed. At times, I wish we would tank and the dollars would disappear. I would love to have no other choice but to hire DePodesta to run a 45M dollar ballclub, trying to win fans back while attendance hovers at 60-80% unless the Cards or White Sox are in town. We say it'll never happen, and we're right. At this point, if we lose the fans and cease to be a top team in fanbase, nothing will change anyhow. I wonder how Jim and Dusty will sleep at night if they are the architects of the fall of the Lovable Losers, a team adored for sucking.

Congratulations guys, you've run the ballclub so badly that the true fans root against you to incur change, and the bandwagon fans root against you as new opposing fans. Thanks.

it's all relevant, and i understand that, with the right front office, a low payroll is not necessarily indicitave of a poor performing team. however, would you not expect a team with such an excessive amount of resources, in particular the cubs, to be a far and away better team than say, a kansas city or florida?

if the devil rays were playing at the same level as the mfy's wouldn't you consider that as much of a failure on the part of new york as it would be a success for tampa bay?

the problem here, however, is not that the pirates or royals are playing at such a high level so as to compete for a division championship, but rather that the cubs are playing so poorly that they are (un)competing for last place.

i, for one, would say that it is a greater failure for the cubs to have the record they have than it is for the royals.

Yeah, we totally do, except that Isiah is ruining his team in an effort to make it better while our guys have a deal with Satan to just hurt innocent women and children.

I am so depressed. These guys are the worst Cubs team I've ever seen, and that, my friends, is really saying something!!!

Went to the game Friday & Sunday. They were over before they started.

I have four more games this season, one of which is with the White Sox.

Man...., it's just really depressing....they really look like they don't even care to be there....

Losing is one thing but, losing with the likes of Rusch, Perez, Mabry and Niven is extremely frustrating. I'd rather see Hill, Guzman and Murton play the remainder this lost season, let's finally see what they can do. Its now or never for Hill perhaps, Guzman as well....

Love the quote from Baker concerning why he didn't start Guzman last Friday:

"The reason [Guzman] didn't start [Friday] was simply because his longest start was four innings,"

Funny, that's about the longest Rusch has lasted in a start...

And they now have hope...they have a much better GM and a farm system with prospects.

Write that on lambskin with goat's blood and send it to Dusty's house; it's that awesome, and spot-on.

You're either a lot younger than me, or you have a really bad memory.

No, they really are that bad.

I started following the Cubs in '69.

This team may have more talent than some of those awful teams in the 1970's, but they are worse. :(

I really do agree with everything that is being stated here - it is really depressing.

I do hope they continue to lose - I hope management has no choice than to make a complete overhaul. I never thought I would ever be here, but I just want them to lose everygame (except against sox & cardinals - not quite that desperate yet). I would love to see some guys that have some fire - that show some excitement - give me the Iowa Cubs instead of this team - anything...

Sorry to break it to you, but the I-Cubs really aren't much better.
